What about the air con compressor bearing?
you might be onto something there. cause the sound is coming from around there..
would it still make the noise if the air con is off?? if this is the problem, how do i go about it?
A whining or whirring noise from the front of the engine will most likely be a pulley bearing failure or something that the belt runs on. You can remove the belt and feel if the bearings are rough or try and pinpoint by using garden hose or a metal rod to your ear and putting the other end in the vicinity of the components. Hope this helps.
with a cold motor remove the belt and start it up. you have a bout 1 minute of unloaded run time before you need to worry about the temps and coolant flow
If its around the front of the engine, could be belt idler pulley or tensioner.
If you can remove the belt that will isolate that.
Trev.
thanks to all...
i will be going for the belt and checking whatever runs off it, the first chance i get to get my hands dirty
I also have a winning noise (or humming noise) coming from the front or maybe clutch.
It gets more noticeable when I slow down to stop.
Mechanic doesn't know what's causing it but thinks it could be diff related.
I'm starting a new thread on my particular issue.
