The first one had the syptoms you described sometime ago, when disco stayed parked overnight, next day speedo 80 klms, actual speed 100,i reseted the unit, next day same thing but the "replacement" unit shows different speed within the same day without touching the settings at all.
I bought the damn thing to get the cruise control function back,i was used to the difference between actual and shown speed, with 255/85/16 and 1.4 transfer i get almost 41 klms/1000rpm so 2000 rpm is 80klms roughly,2500 rpm 100klms,3000 rpm 120klms etc.
I could live with the unit if it had the same variation all the time so i could keep the cruise control also..
My first unit used to change within the same day as well as overnight. As I said from what you are describing, your replacement unit is from the batch of faulty units. Request another replacement.

I drove about 60 klms with the disco yesterday, the speedo was ok,the ride included some shop stops-engine off and starting again didn't affect the unit.
I am holding my breath on this but the original fuse holder might be the problem as many owners have reported at various forums.
I'll disconect the power supply to the unit while driving to see if the speedo acts weird or stays at 0 klms...just trying to replicate the problem...
    Cheers
