    what lift for what tyres

when fitting bigger feet to a disco 2 what tyres can fit whithout cutting guards at standard 2" and 3", the standard tyres need to be replaced and going bigger will help in the ruts off road

No matter how many times I try to say this people just dont seem to get it..

You can ONLY fit a tyre that fits with NO lift...

A LIFT only moves the static position of the tyre relative to the chassis.. The tyre will still move through the same arc and therefore will hit when compressed up into the bodywork.

Some people fit such high rate coils that they will never flex up - this defeats the purpose and makes the vehicle worse off-road than before.

If you want a true lift, plus larger tyres you need to make clearance around the wheel arch and/or space ALL the suspension travel down with Bumpstop extensions, longer shocks etc...

Its NOT as simple as 2" lift and bigger tyres please....

Accepting what Tombie says.... and I wouldn't argue with him, he's a big bastard. You can put 32" tyres under your D2 without cutting the guards. I have them and have never had any issues

thanks for the replies , i do realise what tombie was saying (benn building toyotas for 15+ years) i was just after the size without cutting guards. for instance the rangies will fit 31's easy but I found that on my air sprung 94 id worry if the air suspension let me down that they would rub guards where on my previous coil 84 clearance was no issue. I was looking to see if 245 or 265 would be ok on the disco to allow for more varied tread options

I have Bridgestone 265/70/R16 D694LT's fitted on std coil suspension with an ARB bull bar that fit and IMO look just right.

OK. At the risk of highjacking this thread, and having read far too much on this site about max sizes (including the charts), for a standard coil D2a 04 TD5, what is the maximum tyre height /width you would recommend with no proposed suspension or body lift or camel cut.
I have the standard 8 x 16 alloy 6 spoke rims and understand that just under 32 inches is max - if so, please confirm and would appreciate comment on max recommended widths (I'm currently running 255 x 65).
    Cheers Gavin

Obviously you haven't had it flexed up to the bump stop!

Watch your rear guards, they'll get bent up.

265/75-16 fit with only bullbar (will rub with factory bar at the bottom edge)
