    Which engine coolant sensor?

I am thinking of putting in a coolant sensor on my D2, taking heed of the warnings on this forum. There seem to be quite few different ones with wide ranging prices eg Engine Saver $199, Engine Watchdog $149 and Engine Sensor Watchdog $129, amongst others.

I would appreciate some feedback on what sensor types members are using and views on pros and cons.

I've had two types in my td5's - One in my defender from the "Shop" section above (which goes into the bleed screw on the cooland hose) but I've sold that to another forum member! It's a good way to support the forum (just click on the shop icon on the bar between markets and chat or you can click http://www.davesitshop.com/davesitsh...&productId=137 - an engine saver for $160).

The other Ive just put in my D2 is the Mad Man EMS unit from South Africa, which monitors a whole bunch of other stuff too. To be honest its a bit of overkill - I drive like a nana but the Exhaust Gas Temp info was fun to look at for a couple of weeks (by the way, SWMBO got the EGT up to 700 on every drive until I explained to her to take it easy - she had no idea I could track it via the EMS - very funny). But for around the $600 dollar mark delivered its an expensive bit of kit and I still can't work out how to calibrate the boost settings for the boost guage! Its also a bit more nerve racking to install the temp sender as you have to cut the top radiator hose and install a plastic insert that the temp sender fits into. With the bleed screw insert there is obviously no cutting required.

Just my 10 cents worth but I think the bleed screw type is probably money well spent. I probably wouldn't have gone for the Mad Man had I known that I would pretty much ignore it.

After 2 engine rebuilds I'm now using the EngineSaver as advertised in the banners on this site.
Money well spent, and a nice re-assuring audible beep when I turn my ignition assures me I still have coolant!

    Low Water Alarm Sensor

Extremely cheap for peace of mind, and dead easy to install.
Has my "thumbs up" all the way.

Thanks for the replies. Am I right in understanding that the engine saver senses both low water and high temperature; that it provides an audible and red light alarm but no digital readout? If no readout, how does the warning set point get adjusted?

The engine savers supplied by Davey on this forum have a low coolant audible alarm (and red light), and a high engine temp audible alarm and digital display. There is a small button for setting the engine temp threshold.

I have one of these but yet to fit it to the RR, was wondering where you have the sensor fitted?
