I think this is really bad

After my small fire of the hand brake lever yesterday, where the starter was using it as a earth, because forgot to refit the battery earth to engine cable.
Today I've got all sorts of things happening
    .
Then engine started at about 1500rpm, then settled. the dash has the hill decent, traction control and the S & M lights going, the S & M lights flash constantly.
The dash auto shift indicator just says P.R.N .D not other gears.

The console auto shifter flashes Drive.
The odometer went to 0 also the trip meter.
after restart it came back to display the correct kms driven.

I connected my Hawkeye and it says vehicle unknown in the EMS.
I tried Hawkeye on the TD5 and all worked, just doesn't work on my V8.
Would the Disco be in limp mode????
I checked for error codes and found some for the auto, but they would not clear .

The other functions on Hawkeye appear to work. but EMS no go.
I feel like I might have fried the EMS?
    Any help realy appreiated

After quite a bit of googling, it seems the flashing M+S lights are related to an auto fault.
Will have to check and auto looms under the Disco to see if the melted hand brake cable contacted the auto loom some how.
Also saw a post where it said the Auto ecu is under the passenger side seat, and merely needs to have the plug pulled and re inserted.

The auto ECU is under the seat, you need to remove the cover to unplug it though. While you're there consider waterproofing it. I can't remember who told me but I now have a large lunch box (with oring seal) with clip down lid. I only fit the lid if it looks like it'll get wet otherwise just let it sit open. You'll need a larger enough grommet to fit over the plug and shrink back to the harness size. I back filled the grommet with "liquid" elec tape and fitted it to a hole in the side of the lunch box and some more "tape" painted around the edge of the grommet/lunch box interface. The hole pattern onto the floor can come from the cover. I just silasticed a washer inside the box/around the stud.

The Gods were with me, I plugged it back in and cleared every fault, the lights flashing S&M are out now. The ECM is reading so I think it isn't damaged.
