On my old D2 I got 3 original LR binacle switches and used them. They weren't marked correctly but I knew what they were for..... when I wrote it off there were no questions either as they had no idea of the 'modifications';)

Hello all!
My first post on here....some VERY useful info im very thankful!
Was wondering if you could post some more photos of how you put it in the ashtray? Im doing exactly the same thing here in the UK (where far less people have Air Lockers in "standard" vehicles so theres not much about where people have put the switches)
I got hold of the aux switch pannel and planned to remove the ashtray, but looking at the dimensions you cant fit all three of the carling switches in, so ill be putting them in the ashtray like here.
Wondered if you had any photos from the back, or could you explain how you modified it? Presumably you just cut the 3 holes in the front then took some of the insides out?
Thanks in advance,
William
Hi William
I used a Dremmel tool to carve out the plastic at the back of the aux mount tray, little by little, until the switchs fitted nicely. A boring but ultimately satisfying execise
I'm sure with patient Dremmeling (?) I could fit three ARB switchs side by side. I only fitted the rear locker, might do the front later. I've yet to get the Disco properly stuck with CDL and a rear locker so might not need a front locker. I'm going 4WDriving this w/e and its been non stop rain since Saturday in Sydney area, I'm expecting greasy hateful mud, so might revise that statement.
All the best
Andy
Think I'll be getting myself one of these. Anyone else while I'm ordering want to share freight, they're $20-, I'll cover freight since I'm ordering a few other things. Go on, you know you want to.

The other thing is, if you get the genuine switches, trim the (usually white) surround off the back. The part the plus clips into. The exposes the male tabs that the plug usually fits over. you can solder onto these with heat shrink to cover and have all three in the panel go into a larger male/female generic plug to run everything neatly, you can even wire them into the dash lights so the work with the instrument lighting.
To this end, can you get blank switch faces or does anyone customise the the face of the standard switches?
Any info on the switch faces, or want to grab a panel as well please PM me.
So you reckon you can fit all three in one of those aux pannels with the three holes? I havent got the locker switches yet but Ive got one of those pannels lying in the back of the car and going on the dimensions of the switches it didnt look at the close to fitting really, but ill have another look.
Also interesting to hear you get on fine with just the rear: I was thinking of doing both just because that seemed the thing to do really. Hmm, food for thought anyway!
Cheers
Willam
