    Urgent: removing all mufflers

    Hi all,

My Disco ii td5, 2000 has developed an exhaust rattle (It's me, I tied the exhaust back a little - it was rattling beside the engine). I'm trying to book it in to the exhaust shop tomorrow. I already have the centre muffler removed. Will the Disco suffer if I have the rear, small muffler removed too?

Not changing exhaust size or anything. Just take out the rear muffler and get a pipe welded in place - and fix the exhaust rattles.

    Cheers.

It won't suffer, but it might be loud and possibly drone.

    @BigJon

    Many thanks.

Fingers crossed I'll get it into the shop today and make a decision on part or complete removal.

    Cheers

Fixed the exhaust rattle and had the rear muffler removed - I hate it! Sounds like a pack of bees from the back. Lucky I had the muffler and straight pipe flanged. Now I can change it back and forth anytime I like.

The middle pipe (which was purchased from the UK) was 20mm too short - hence the rattles.

    Many thanks for your help.

You may not think its a viable option when you get a canary for a defective vehicle.

Straight through exhausts are not legal in NSW.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Based on what evidence? I would think exhausts are regulated by noise volume, rather than whether they are straight through or not.

    It's cool.

I'm putting the rear muffler back. It had a much nicer throughoutie (if that's a word) sound - Not loud, and well below the police radar.

But, may I ask, how do you reset the ecu?

When I first bought the Disco, I was getting around 10.5lt/100km. A mechanic (warranty work - ABS related), reset the ecu and it jumped to 14.3lt/100km - How do I get it back?

    Cheers

On the Vic roads bit from my knowledge because the D2 has 2 cat's it can get away with no mufflers but yes you need to keep it under a db for sound this is done by the STR's and driving smart around the wrong cars ( police )
