    SLS AND ESHOCKS BILSTEINS

Just a quick question for those running Billies and SLS, can I get opinions on using the coil rated rear shocks these guys supply please.
My concern is more for the rebound rate than the bound.
Keeping it std at the moment but will lift the spring rate later.

I've been running them for about 12 months and they've just started to leak a little. When purchased I requested (as I was told they had the specs) SLS/ACE specific valving. The fronts were Ok but 'crashy' whereas the rears seemed to have zero rebound control at all. I swapped them with standard valved versions and now they're leaking. When off road they do seem prone to topping out which I attribute to insufficient rebound damping.

All told I'm dissatisfied with Billies on my truck (same on my RRC) and am going either for LandRover OE parts or Konis. It's a personal thing and I just don't like the ride (and now the leaking).

    Cheers

I just fitted Billis in mine with the 50mm lift so they are the long travel (think 995 or 994 is something) and they are going well ride is alot better then the old ones, have only been off road a little since fitted but they whent well its hard to pin it well the major upgrade that i did at once.

    I have limited suspension knowledge.

I have the 994 and 995 part number extended travel billies in my 2004 D2 with SLS. As far as I know in the facelift D2's there is only one part number for oe rear shocks for both coil and SLS models. The valving for the billies is therefore suited for both.

In the real world it rides a hell of a lot better than the worn out original shocks.

I've just spent the last week in the Vic high country which has been the first real test for it and I was very happy with it.

I was pretty heavily loaded and it handled great, it was supple over the rough tracks yet handled great on the highway runs and high speed dirt roads. The extra travel and Clearence under the body came in very handy as well.

I have the heaviest ome coils in the front (40mm) and SLS spacers in the rear.

I'm more concerned with the rebound characteristics for those who have SLS still installed and have used the the coil listed items.

Aparently there IS a listed SLS part number but the agent over here won't give me anything other than "$495 a pair" as a reference.
I need to find this number and supply it to e-shocks so I can see if he has them available, if not I need to bite the bullet and go for coil rated or temporarily something else.

I need to do something about it now as the ride is atrocious at the moment and really doing my head in but I don't want to do it twice.
Plus I still have an EAS system to fix and airbags for Clyde to be done yet too... KaChing$$$!!

I'm a fussy ***** sometimes.... Does my head in (and SWMBO'd too) but that's just me

    Hey Bidds,

if your after Koni's try Capital Sterring in Canberra, they will do good deals on Koni's and will fit them for the right price too.

I recently had a set of Koni FSD shocks fitted by them to the D3 and they ride really well and aren't harsh like the Billies.

    cheers,

Why not have a talk to Sydney Shock Absorbers as I recall several years ago when the SLS D2s came out Graeme Cooper had a LOT of trouble with getting correct valving and AFAIR, he and Sydney Shocks came up with a solution. Only costs a phone call.

IMHO it is very unusual to have Billies leak. Mine have now done the Cape, GRR, Kalumburu, Mitchell falls, Tanami, Plenty ( towing a camper trailer). I had a slight leak in the LH front and had it rebuilt at Sydney Shocks who reported only 5CC or so and 95% effective.

in my old d2 i had Billies which i purchased from Michael Somotin(dont think thats the right spelling) from 4x4 intelligence, these where valved from airbags and had longer travel the the standard shocks, i cant give you specifics on them but i do know they rode way better then the standard shocks and are still going strong today after about 6 years of punishment - i sold the car but its currently parked in my back yard as my friend now owns it. You might want to give 4x4 intelligence a call.

Can you see what the numbers are stamped on the tube? This will determine which one and what valving it has.
Even if they are long travel, I can still limit the extension not that I see much offroad at the moment anyway.
Alternatively...... Would he miss them if I kind of.... well..... swapped...???
