Basically the reason people change to silicon is that over time the rubber hoses break down on the inside due to oil contamination, the inside of the hose peels away, blocking the hose, restricting air to the intercooler.Be aware that you have to secure the silicone hoses well, because they can slip off if you don't, Bob

I've had one of the turbo hoses go at about 1750,000km, so I'm replacing the lot as a precaution. I figure for the price of the silicon, I will stick to the regular as I won't make my money back unless I have the Disco until its done about 600,000km

I've had one of the rubber hoses fail on mine too, and I've only just clocked over 100K. So mine are now all silicon.

Mine didn't de-laminate on the inside as some have done - it just developed a very small split in the hose (took me a while to find it). Sounded like a compressor blowing off when I was driving it (was actually air being sucked into the hose) - noise increased with revs. Found it at home - was a split that I could just get the end of my little finger into. Luckily, I had a set of the silicon hoses already - and fitted them the same day. No problems since.

I've heard that if the hose de-laminates badly enough on the inside, you can suck a lump of rubber up into the turbo and that this can cause some serious damage. Don't know how much truth there is in that - but I'd rather just fit the silicon hose kit and not take the risk.
    Cheers .........

Would have thought that the hoses in question are down stream of the turbo so no turbo problem but could gunk up the intercooler perhaps. I would expect though that leakage would draw your attention to the hose first.

Found silicone set on flea bay for less than $200. (item number 200609931789). What did you pay for regular type?

Think it was $55 for one of the pipes, from an LR specialist mechanic. Got the local Autoone shop looking into the others for me.

The first one went while I was on the road, on a Friday night, and it was downstream from the turbo, and so was losing air. Only heard the noise when the turbo spooled up, and the higher the revs, the worse it got, with no oomph from the engine. Towing a caravan was not much fun

Ended up using recovery tape to hold it together until I could find an LR mechanic on the Monday morning.
