D2 Non start
Hey guys i've had a good search for an answer to this but haven't come up with anything definitive.
So it goes like this, i've been offered a 2000 D2 v8 for cheap, real cheap, like stupid cheap!
The owner has said the battery in the remote key had gone flat and after manually unlocking the car with the key it wouldn't start and hasn't started since (12 months) and that there is a problem with the immobiliser. Now from what i could find in my search was that the EKA code was needed to get the car running again and that seems pretty straight forward. It's the fact that the owner has said that the last time they tried to get it going it would turn over but wouldn't fire. Now from what i know an immobiliser problem would mean it would not turn over at all. So in that case should my focus go towards things like fuel pump, crank angle sensor and the like?
All thoughts would be much appreciated as its too cheap to pass up, even if it doesn't run
Cheers Ryan.

It's got to be one of the three - fuel, air or spark
But remember its hard to tell the quality of the engine without it running. If it's turning over, perhaps you can at least get a compression test on the cylinders to check the engine isn't flogged out.

If no spark check ckp sensor with a multimeter (pin 32 black and pin 46 pink on the 52 pin ECU connector) - should be around 1000 ohms
When my first one failed it would show open circuit then come good when I flicked the multimeter to diode test and back, then she started ok
I'd be wary of 'stupid cheap' - could be a black hole!

If the motor is cactus & the price is still good assuming everything else is ok, Bundalene has a 4L for sale I believe. Much cheaper than my motor change cost me too.

If its the immobiliser, it will cut fuel via the injectors.

Haven't been able to check it out they live up in the middle of nowhere basically so a bit of a trek without just bringing it back. Also thinking now its going to be an easy fix because i asked her if she changed the battery in the key and what do you know, she hasn't!! Oh and FYI stupid cheap= $800
