    Exhaust repairs ans EGR

    Hi guys.

I need some gurus to advise me. My exhaust, from just before the middle section backwards, needs to be replaced, so what to do?

    1. Do I do a straight through? Cheaper than replacing what's there but will the sound be better (throatier) or crap?

    2. Do I fit an EGR plate? If so, what exactly will it do for my car?

Any comments would be great!!! It's an auto 2004 TD5, discovery with 180km on it.

    Thanks!

My exhaust has had the centre muffler replaced with a smaller hot dog and the cat ummm removed :-). Sounds good not over the top just a clean note and no drone. And have a egr plate in, will eventually remove the whole egr set up.
So basically making the exhaust flow better will reduce temps and help turbo cool down quicker, and egr block off will stop oil from re entering your intake and reduce gunk build up.

    All good in other words!

I would reccomend fitting a high flow cat and a hotdog muffler blanking the EGR prevents your engine from turning its intake air into grinding paste.

While you're at doing the mod you should also pull the intercooler and the inlet manifold to give them a good cleaning out. Use an oil damped rag to wipe out the inlet runners in the head.

    Hi Barney,

I've removed the EGR complete from my 02 and 04 Discos - both run much better without this EU legislative nonsense that is only applicable to O/S countries.
My recommendation is to also junk the cat converter which is the small "muffler" just below your flex plate running underneath the exhaust manifold....its also an EU requirement not applicable to Oz however,......be aware that Australian Standards state that we aren't allowed to meddle, fiddle or modify in any way the emission equipment on any vehicle...and that includes EGR stuff and exhausts!!

If checked - you may be pinged by vehicles inspectors or road-worthy authorities and made to replace it all

Although our vehicles benefit profoundly with better fuel economy, sharper turbo response and 'easier' throttle control by these small modifications!!

Take your vehicle to a quality exhaust repairer and feel the difference once they've finished!

Thanks guys. I'm going to do a straight through and hope it sounds good. I'll dispense with the EGR plate at this stage I reckon though.

    Thanks again!
