    D2 td5 - starts, then limp mode

    We have a problem with #2 son's 00 D2 td5 auto.

Starts easily, then after being loaded up, goes into limp mode.

Can you point me in the right direction for this fault diagnosis and repair?

    Cheers,

    Pete

    Hey Pierre,
Mates d2 was doing this, after he changed batteries, went around all terminals and earths and the problem was solved, told it was current spike or drop.
My alternator dropped mine into limp mode then no go.
Are your M&S dash light on?
Ive heard xyz switches create this too.
Some one here with more knowledge probably point you in better directions

Mine did this last year, (2004 td5 auto) at first I thought it was oil in the injector harness creating problems with the ecu. But after cleaning the small amount of oil that was in the plugs the problem was still there. Very shortly afterward the car started to lose power even more than limp mode and finally stopped. It turned out to be my fuel pump. Hope this helps.

Baffle is also correct, If it seems to go into limp when shifting the auto, check the xyz.

    Further info.

Fuel pump replaced about 3 months ago. Any thoughts about accelerator assembly faults?

I'll be taking a 1000aH battery and Nanocom with me to attempt a rescue next weekend, but I want to assemble the bits I may need first - the car's at Naracoorte and I'm in Melbourne.

    Cheers for the help.

When you say 'load it up' do you mean driving it normally or under full throttle or rapid acceleration.

Was just thinking of some kind of over boostin/ under fueling type scenario. That is an area I don't know much about.

I seem to remember reading threads about throttle position sensors so that could be on the money.

    Smile

Had a pretty easy life, really. A bit of sand, a bit of mud, not much water! So, the list is gathering together - I've got a few bits already (refurbished xyz), so I'll get a hold of a accel assy and give it a go next Thu/Fri. I'll keep you posted.

    Cheers

    xyz

Kev, I took it to bits, cleaned all the #$%@ out of it, greased it with electrical grease from work, put it back together. Don't know about bingo yet, but it's just a multiposition tracked switch mech.

    Cheers
