D2a Td5 same MY & same Kms, fitted Ashcroft's uprated TC some 20 months ago and running on a stage1 remap. Have been recently doing lots of high speed black top (steady 160 km/h) and my ATF seems to degrade faster as a result of. The usual symptom is thumping when going into 3rd gear. 'Purifying' the ATF (i.e. partial oil change) more regularly has cured the problem.

On the other hand the EAT not getting engine torque information can certainly be causing the rough gear changes as reckon the torque reduction request messages would not get sent? Are you able to read live engine torque reduction % within Evo's autobox module? Should be able to notice the reduction through each gear change, it's a flicker but most times it can be seen.

Engine torque is computed by the ECM using various bits of information, just not entirely sure which bits. ECM must be getting dodgy info that is preventing it from running the torque numbers.

Throttle pot faults are usually show stoppers (MIL illuminated & engine idling with no throttle response) so I dare say yours is coming from a different direction. Suggest checking for oil in loom, clean connectors on all sensors, etc. then check live fueling parameters trying to spot anything unusual. Can also check accelerator response by running the throttle throughout its range (ignition on - engine off) while looking at live readings, track 1 + track 2 must add to circa 5 volts all the time.

Can look at fueling recordings (CSV file) if you send/post them.

What oil are you running? Post my overhaul i started running penrite synatf and found it to be much smoother than previous and I keep the changes coming once a year or 25000k's.

Bear in mind that the TD5 ECU reports a maximum torque figure of 400nm to the EAT. According to this post a TD5 with Stage 2 map + VNT and upgraded intercooler will be putting out 410+nm.

My suspicion is that once torque output exceeds 400nm the TD5 ECU will report invalid torque figures to the EAT ECU resulting in the P1884 (33) error and degraded shift quality.

In addition to what Matt has suggested, recording D2 Autobox > Inputs > General for a driving session with the Evo would quickly identify if the torque figures are issue.

Hello,
many thanks for the info from everybody filled the gearbox up with Valvoline Dexron III.
I took the car to Rover-Tech in Bentley yesterday. A quick look on the Testbook still had theCAN fault also 2 others one a timed out and another.
Kevin's told me straight away there is a wiring problem as the gearbox can not see the engine so comes up with the fault, has high default setting which thumps it into gear. Must have been me when i fitted the TC must have done something to the wires, he had another D2 with almost the same problem which had just been fixed. SO the auto sparkie is coming to have a look on friday morning to repair the loom as he is mobile. I will swtich to the Penrite oil, since the re-map and the new TC haven't be able to give it a good work out as yet.
All of this have been happening around the 2200 rpm mark, if I use SPORT mode it doesn't do it only in 3rd
A big thanks to Kevin at Rover-Tech for having a quick look at it for me. I will have to watch the torque then as I have just made a 3inch exhaust to bolt on.

Forgot the crurise control isn't working since the new TC and my evo2 doesn't work with the gearbox when the engine is running never has even with the new firmware get error cannot comuicate with ECU.

Just pay particular attention to where the loom passes over the LHR of the transfer case and extension housing as i have had 2 D2's with chafed through looms and electrical faults due to shorting wiring.
