It's usually either the battery or the inhibitor switch.

Make sure the battery is in top condition before starting any diagnosis.
so ive had my m and s lights come on when I first start my car . this is all the time that i start the car . constantly in the morning . I start then turn off then start and repeat that about 10 times and it usually goes . it doesnt come on < hardly > when I am driving . I have been told numerous things and have replaced batteries , alternator , starter , battery clamps trans ecu < from a really dodgy mechanic > and more . I am now being told that it is probably < big probably > the inhibitor switch . Has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do .This is driving me nuts . It doesnt always go into limp mode , when the lights are on . It can drive perfectly fine when they are on . please help

Plenty of info on this issue - do a thread search, grab a cuppa and start reading......
also, you might want to do the air con drain mod - also do a search on this.
Id look it up for you but im at work and shouldnt really be on here
some people have pulled appart the inhibitor, cleaned and re-assembled with success.
Mine does it occasionally, but up until recently I had the air con dripping onto it constantly. I just swich off the ign, lock, unlock the doors and restart. This usually clears the M+S lights.
cheers

thanx . but about the baterry , its new and big . is the inhibitor switch a straight forward swap or is it something that has to be done by a mechanic . Any help is good help .
If you know one end of a spanner to another, have a crack at pulling it appart your self.
As for the battery, make sure your terminals are nice an tight and the earth is good.
A mechanic can do all this for you, but of course it will cost plenty. Why not have a crack at it yourself. If you werent a mechanic before buying a disco.....you soon will be.
yeah good call . Ill probably have a go , im not new to landies but this is a new prob . drove 110s in the army for a while . this disco has a 2 inch lift 235/85/16s bfg km2s . plus a whole list of goodies . all i need is to increase lift so i can run 255/85/16s and to put in the cdl lever , which is very hard to get cos no one is wrecking any d 2s and a grand is too much
