Ran my TD5 disco on Caltex Delo 400 15w/40 mineral oil and when I sold it at 250,000kms it never used a drop between services, and ran fine.

Took that car all over Australia, both cold and hot climates.

I run Delo400 too, buy it in 20L drums from Caltex truck stops for about $120 and the TD5 purrs along with it. Not sure if it helps that i'm in VIC and have a colder climate but the old girl seems to love it and the only time its used oil has been when it has been leaking out from various places

I run Caltex C3 5w/30 in winter (Tasmania) and Caltex fully synthetic 5w/40 in summer. Caltex fuel distributors supply 20L drums of this stuff for between $130 and $140 depending which one you want. Great value for fully synthetic.

If you still have your user manual it provides a small chart for you to determine what viscosity oil you require for the climate of your area just as a guide.

Rick130 appears to be the oil guru on here and I am sure that there is a section in 'the good oil' from him regarding specific requirements for Td5's due to the high break down pressure required for the injector camshaft (I think).

I am sure that the Penrite stuff, as the others have suggested, is listed as suitable according to Rick130. You will find that supercrap auto often have good sales on it.

    Cheers, Dave
