Just my perspective on your original question. Yes traction control (TC) is VERY good on the D2 and will get you up most steep loose climbs really well. For most outings it will perform well and there is no need for anything else. I was never left behind doing trips in the Vic High Country with friends in their 80 series or patrols, prior to fitting a CDL cable. Installing CDL gives the TC more of a holiday. Without CDL you need to keep the throttle down in tricky situations and let TC do the work. With CDL you feel more in control and with less throttle and less TC action going on the car will tip toe across the drama.
I support installing a CDL cable but you can spend you money on good rubber first then if you still have money do the CDL. I don't have one but I would think that a front air locker may get you further in the bush than a rear one as this will be the first axle to loose traction doing a steep climb. The weight on your rear axle climbing helps traction down back so do that one last.
Like Alien D2 I like the simplicity and bullet proof LRA kit, easy to install.
