D2, flat battery and EKA

Does the red LED illuminate when you press the dead button? If not it is almost certainly a dud joint which any tech should be able to fix in five minutes.

Even if it is a dud microswitch they are available from Jaycar for $5 or so.

A couple of weeks ago I returned from a camping trip and parked my Disco in the garage but didn't shut the tailgate properly. When I pressed the lock on the keyfob the horn tooted once. I couldn't be bothered pulling the car forward to have another go at shutting the door properly (my garage is a bit of a squeeze) so I left it.

My suspicion is that leaving the door not shut properly for as long as I did upset the alarm or something. It was left for over a week in this state.

I know the keyfob is probably okay as the car didn't respond to my spare keyfob either. Both are in good working order and the LED comes on when the buttons are pressed.

And I'll be changing the EKA to something simple this weekend as three of the four characters in my current EKA are letters.

I find the same as PhilipA.

If the battery dies with the alarm off, then when the battery is rectified the alarm will remain off.

Likewise, if the battery dies with the alarm on, then when the battery is rectified the alarm stays on and when the alarm triggers, which it will, you just lock the Disco2 and then unlock it again which will disarm the alarm. The alarm goes off because it is sensing the doors, bonnet etc are open or the engine is trying to be started while still alarmed.

As long as the key works, I've never needed the EKA.

What are your thoughts on the situation I left my car in?

Alarm set but rear door not closed properly.
Car left in this state for about 8 days.
No response from key fob (in service or spare) after the 8 days.
Used EKA top disarm alarm. Car now responds to key fob.
Cranking battery fully charged (usually hooked up to trickle charger as car only used once a fortnight or so).
Car kept under cover to no water ingress to cause problems with RF receiver.

Might leaving the in an armed state (but with one sensor saying the door was open) for a prolonged period upset the alarm controller?

After a few days the computers in the car shut down to preserve the battery. In the process it also disables the ability to unlock using the key fob. To turn the electronics back on again you can use the key in the drivers door. I unlock and then relock by key, the system wakes up in the process, and then I unlock again using the fob which deactivates the alarm. The rear door wont change much if you've been able to lock with the fob.

I don't think the alarm or anything had shut down. The red LED on the dashboard was still flashing and battery would have been in good order due to it being on the trickle charger.

I'll chalk this one up to another Land Rover quirk/mystery... :)

THAT^^^^'ts the answer. +1 for that... as about some common alarm missbehaviours see these(even if it's for NAS not OZ it's a good info cos except the frequency range and fuel type(which is irrelevant) the rest is the same for all in the world):

That's all correct in terms of what it does. Sleep mode for all of the electronics, but the alarm is still active, the dash LED still flashes and it prevents the battery from going flat.

Aaah! Okay, so the shutdown isn't dependent on the state or change of the battery then? It's just a time thing. Maybe I use/access my Disco more frequently than I thought. It was sat for 8 days when this happened but I'd be sure I've left it untouched for longer periods in the past. Maybe I haven't.

Anyway, it's all working okay now and my original post was really just a shout out to Austral :)
