Thread: Vin number query

It's actually a "2004 Model Year" rather than a "2004". Sheesh.

Model year starts about August for most years of D2 production, so an 04MY D2 could have been built from August 2003 until 27 May 2004 when D2 production ended.

Seeing the VIN is incomplete it's not possible to say exactly when the car was built but SALLTGM834A843111 was built 20 November 2003. A 4A843xxx would have been built with a week or so of this date. Serial numbers were up to 4A848xxx by the first week of Jan 2004.

So it's a late November 2003 built, 2004MY D2 TD5.

Yup, this VIN "modesty" is a bit unneccesary really. I wonder what people are scared of? Someone stealing their VIN and using it to order parts?
