Hi LRT,, yes I know,, I tried to say normal V8 idle is 650:angel:,,
as for scoops,,

I think a Patrol one like
Bigbuggar ( FLASHBACK!) put on would be ideal,,
(normal diesel patrol scoop)
The down side is noise and water ingress,,
but unless you plan on dunking your bonnet in a creek( and getting stuck) the benefits far outway the odd 1% .
I reckon 3 or 4 Ford GT barnicles wouldnt go astray;):D

650 is within range of normal hot idle..
Im not worried about the system, it cools down and holds a normal operating temp at high idle. if it didnt cool down fairly rapidly (less than about 2 minutes) at high idle I'd have concerns. It may be worth your while at the next service interval to replace the new thermostat with the old one and run a cooling system flushing agent before doing a pressure flush of the cooling system. Then replace the new thermostat and replace the coolant with new stuff.

I can't reuse the old thermostat as the flange has fractured, and in turn blew the top hose off.
The Discovery runs 50/50 OAT & water in the cooling system. This was replaced a year ago.
if you use the OAT to its full service life (and good luck getting the hoses and joints to last that long.)
IMHO its mandatory for a chem clean, pressure flushout of the system with the coolant change and replacing ALL the hoses and seals in the system
If you do it 3 yearly (half the nominal stated service life of the OEM OAT + the CAT oat that I use) Then a pressure flush at the 3 year mark, removal of the hoses for inspection and clean up, replacement as required will keep you out of trouble. Then at the next interval its all hoses, chem flush and pressure flush to reset the cycle.
typically with OAT if I find one failing hose then I replace them all and do a component flush while the system is apart.

Bright red OAT stains everything in sight. Even the entire underneath of the car!
At least we didn't have to dispose of the coolant as it was evenly distributed on the gravel road!
The engine runs fine after the encounter with no overheating issues.
