Headlight Globes

Brian, you are dead right about the relays and heavy wiring, that's basically what the Traxide kit is.

It simply uses the existing wiring as switch wiring for the relays and heavy gauge cable for the rest.

Even with the same globes it is amazing how much more light you get if you get full voltage to them.

Of course I am right. I have been fitting relays for over fifty years. Dead simple. Why you would pay for a kit is beyond me. You just need two double relays, some wire and crimp terminals, two x two fuse blocks and a circuit breaker on a 1/4" cable from the battery power terminal to the circuit breaker and another back to battery earth.

I'll tell you why I bought the kit.... It gave me everything I needed including all relays cables, circuit breakers, connectors split tube and other hardware needed to do a really neat job - the price was good and it was delivered straight to my desk - which meant I could keep working earning a dollar rather than running around getting parts.

Drivesafe makes a bloody good kit - and I was happy to pay the bit extra to make sure I got the right sized cables etc.

I can see why some wouldn't - but it's an easy way to get exactly the right bits and end up with a good result. (Some of us don't have 50 years experience :p)

One thing I should point out Brian, is that the damage to the headlight lens on your falcon is also happening to the reflector, in that the reflective layer on the reflector inside the headlight expands and contracts at a different rate to the plastic it is applied to, and over time ends up a not-so-shiny finish resembling the reverse side of tinfoil. I've had it happen in XF, EB and EF/EL reflectors, the latter being identical to what is in your ute.

Or like some VW / Audi Passat shipments in the late 70s, came off the ship and straight to the upholsterer to have tops of back seats replaced... due to sun-damage during the voyage out here... Fan-Tas-Tic in-built obsolscence!

Discolouring lens/reflectors make a nice car look reallly shabby... great reason to trade up to the next model ;)

The poly can be polished, but needs the UV barrier replaced. Heat from 90/130 watt lamps is another damaging issue to both reflactor and 'lens'.

Actually, some of the plastic bits in my '95 Classic have'nt handled heat particularly well.... the surround around the IGN key for starters. (sorry, pun just slipped in there...) Especially when you compare its price back then with what the plebs could afford...
