yes, the process for install was to drill from the bottom, through the "stud receptacle with about a M8 or similar drill bit. Then using that hole as centre, use a hole saw from the top. The foot of the rail therefore has two points of contact with the car. The stud protrudes through the hole. A larger circumference round footing then sits onto a bracket, and then there is the bit visible from the outside, which is the shape of the rail sitting on the roof, squeezing some foam rubber as the weather seal. The round footing which sits on a bracker btween the roof skin, and the roof lining in the "weight bearing" part. I think I have pictures from the install...wait a bit.
