    Question Second Battery Location

Has anyone thought of or installed a second battery inside the front bumper drivers side, same idea as the water tank on the passenger side? I am thinking of going down this path to get a large second battery, my Discovery 2 is a 7 seater and the wife use these seats at times when she carts the kids and their mates.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated. Thanks...Joe

I would be reluctant to fit a battery in behind the bumber because of repercusions in an accident.

There are second battery trays available for the passenger side of the engine bay next to the firewall, on a TD5(not sure of the V8).
I have seen threads on removing the jack, relocating the ECU and fitting 2 batteries in the box.
There has also been talk of fitting a battery in the SLS compresor tray on the L/H chassis rail(under front seat area).

    Cheers,Kyle.

There is a company in the USA that sells the tray for doing this.

I think I've read that the ECU is in a bad place anyways. Whereabouts would someone move it to? I've just checked mine a few days ago and there was a bit of oil in it so replacing the harness soon. There wasn't much in it (compared to urban panzer) but enough. I am very interested in this and will research when I find the time and will let you know.

    I bought one (lucky8)
but yet to fit it.. It looks well made and loosing a spot for the jack is not big deal. Can send you pics if it helps. It was rather expensive but the freight was a killer.

I had a look at the web site it looks like I found the same product at Discovery II Dual Battery Tray | Columbia Overland I will email them about the freight. I assume that the ECU bolts onto the trays side.

2 x yellow tops of the right model will fit inside the original tray if you remove the ecu, raise the floor and cut out the wall between the batt and ecu slot. Am slowly making an alloy version to keep the jack and original cover and fit the two batts.

Yep those battery trays as the same and look like a good way to get around the disco's small space for a second battery. What kind of yellow top would fit? The d27f is 66ah and 6cm longer than the d34 which is 55ah. Either way of you've got 2@55=110 and I've got a small 35 in the other space near the ABS in the corner so you could have +150ah of yellow top batteries. What kind of logistics are involved in running 3 aux batteries? Ie wiring etc? If the 66ah fit hen you could have +160ah. Any thoughts guys?
