Hi Trevor,
I would buy the entire lt230 kit from Ahscrofts (the HD cross pin is an extra to that) It will probably work out cheaper than getting just the relevant parts locally and you will have spares for down the track
Kit:
Ashcroft Transmissions - LT230 Master Rebuild Kit
Cross pin:
Ashcroft Transmissions - HD Cross Pin
I would say you would need
the shims for the planetary gear,
The thrusts that sit behind the end gears in the centre diff
the front output seal.
Front output bearing (may as well change that when you are in there)
The specific stake nut for the centre diff assembly.
The nut for the front output flange,
Felt washer for the output flange
The standard cross pins can be reused if you arent worried about upgrading it. then just some sealant - if you can buy the proper LR stuff, STC60660 or similar I think (cant find the part number sorry), and some loctite for the bolts.
(all of the above apart from the sealant/loctite and flange nut are in the Kit)
The planetary gears will likely be fine
I think if yours is a D2, you wont need to use any of the paper gaskets in the kit, just sealant as per the rebuild manual.
cheers
Pete

Sorry to be a pain guys. I really do apprecite all the help, I am taking it to a diff specialist tomorrow and want to be prepared if it is the centre diff in which case I will order the kit; the only catch is that I kinda need it done by next week (Thursday latest), which means I can't wait for parts from the UK. Therefore I will have to pay extra to get it from somewhere heron Aus. On ebay from British 4wd they had this kit: http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/vi...00663690424And another supplier: http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/vi...d=200722944160
I'm sorry I can't figure it out, im sure we both look at these things differently. What I note is that in b4wd's item includes the diff lock switch (I have a CDL), the other however looks like it includes more o-rings, washers and a felt washer in the bottom of the pic. At first they both look like 2 copper washers but when you look closer one is actually not a perfect circle. This one also looks like it has copied word for word from the Ashcroft site including the order of items. Judging from what you see what would best suit a D2 with CDL?
Again I appreciate your help and apologise for being so illiterate, hopefully when this is over I can teach others the way of the forc... Transfer case.

The mobile ebay links are a nightmare to see.
Looking at them in normal ebay, both show the difflock switch.
On the first one I would assume all the Orings are in the gasket/seal packet at the top of the image.
They both look much of a muchness as far as i can see. I would imagine both have everything including the flange nuts it would appear.

Thanks for the super quick reply, yeh I thought they were the same item just one had the other items in the bag. I will take it down to be shop first thing and let you know what the go is, cost etc. let's hope they can get me in ASAP. Also while I have you, how long do you think this job would take for a diff specialist to do the job if he focused solely on this job? I don't want to give these guys an impossible deadline and either not get it or get it done on time but a rushed job. Thanks again.

To be honest I wouldnt want to try and guess a time. I wasnt in any hurry and the case was on the bench.

Sounds like you're trying to get it all done before you go away for Easter.
I think that's going to be rushing it, and IMO its not necessary to do it immediately.
I've seen LT95 center diff's with the washers completely gone, and nothing dramatic happened. AFAIK the LT230 has the same diff but with different input and output gears (more splines), so apart from the driveline slop its not going to cause a major drama.
Certainly you need to sort it out, but I don't believe its facing imminent death.
If you're heading away, join RACV Total Care if you're not already a member (just in case something does happen - with the transfer or anything else), fill the transfer with some decent oil, take a Valium and drive it :)
After Easter, sort out the parts you want, from Ashcrofts or whoever else, and schedule it for the work.
Edit: and if you're heading offroad, put the CDL in as soon as there's any chance of losing traction. You don't want to be spinning that center diff.

That's cool, yeh i totally understand. I'll just have to take their word for it , they seemed ok last time so indictions are good. Thanks heaps again and will let you know what the go is. :)

Thanks Steve, yeh I am looking to go camping over Easter, took the time off work etc and been pretty excited bout it and don't wanna head up in the missus' Daewoo... I don't know if I can pull myself to drive it, it's acting similar to what it did before the diff went. I know the two are completely unrelated but the backlash brings back bad memories lol. I'm not too fussed about the HD pin, would be nice but I figure most people dont have it so can't be too bad. Ashcroft is bout $160 and whatever to post so call it $200 AUD. I don't mind spending the extra money for piece of mind especially if I've got a 800km round trip coming up; I was to scared to take it 2ks to Coles lol.

Hey all,Here's an update. The guy that did my diff flat out said he couldn't even look at the car till after Easter, didn't like his tone or lack of knowledge about the LT230 t case. So I decided to give can do automotive a call in ringwood and Rowan the all knowing LR man, says he's full up on Monday but will do his best and get it back to me by Wednesday arvo at the latest. If a reco is needed we will replace with a low km second hand one, he also mentioned some other possible causes which he will also check. I loved the work they did with my lift and their great help and quite happy the local diff mechanic was such pri... Meany. He reckons 350-400 for a used t-case plus labour oil etc. wherever the cost I know it will be fair as this is the kind of business it is. I will let you know of the outcome.

Hey Trevor,
Just be aware that the replacement, being low mileage wont necessarly mean that the shims are good.
mine had completely gone by 115k km.
Rgds
