Check the tightness of teh bolts on the exhaust manifold?
HI all,
I have a 1999 model td5 had it for 4 years now. Not too long ago it had started to make a chirping noise it doesn't seem to be related to load, revs, bumps or braking. I have just replaced the front drive shaft as i was sus of that the exaust manifold has no cracks and i today just checked all the pullies on the front of the motor just in case.
The noise does seem to be coming from under the car and only when its moving, doesnt really matter what speed though. I've checked all the hubs doesnt seem to be anything a miss there and the brakes are clean and the pads are pretty new.
It does sound like metal rubbing on metal
Thought someone here may have had this before?
Check the tightness of teh bolts on the exhaust manifold?
not that i know huge amounts about it, but i'd think it would be drive shaft related, it was on mine anyway.
Hopefully someone will be along to correct me if i'm wrong!
I have a random chirping noise in my TD5 Defender, its driving me nuts.
Its not engine or running gear related, it comes from the rear interior above the left rear wheel , loud enough to hear whilst driving . strange thing is its still there for about a minuite when I shut it down & parked. Sounds like the mandibles of a chewing wood beetle but 100 times louder. I'll record it with my phone next time its happening.
Try spraying some lithium grease onto the front tailshaft cardinal joint ball . Situated between the universals..
yes, chirping sounds like the front shaft to me....check the universal joints for play.

will check the tourqe on the manifold as i have replaced the head not to long ago maybe i got them wrong.......
But it can't be the front shaft i have replaced it with a completely brand new one and it did it with the old one in place to.
However i willcheck the rear one as it is not new but i do know the uni joint is good in that
