    HELP! Fuel spurting everywhere!

    Hi guys,

Can you help? When I start my disco 2 td5, petrol spews out from somewhere near the fuel tank. I can't see where the leak is from but i think it's a hose or fuel pump as hen I put the car on "on" but not "start" it pumps fuel out for a few secs then stops. When the car starts it keeps spitting fuel out. I can't see the hoses and tank to find where it is coming from. I am pretty sure it's something on the drivers side and on the top area of the tank.

    Could it be:
    -fuel pump?
    -hoses?
    -cracked (plastic) tank?

I don't thinks it's cracked tank as it only leaks when the car is "on" or running

I don't think it's a busted fuel pump as it is pumping but seems to be making a funny noise

If it is a hose, all the hoses seem tucked up high above the tank and I can't see where the leak is coming from. How do I get the tank out so I can check the hoses?

Any ideas? Or do I put the bash plate back on and drop it off at the mechanics in the morning?

Fuel hose rubbed through. The D2's virtually all do it some time, unless the pipes are relocated from where they rub through. Needs new pipe assemblies or joiners to suit the plastic stuff. Do a search, you'll find out how common this is.

Yep,, the diesels seem to vibrate through their fuel line above the tanks,,

I have read dealers stuffing this up,, so it might be worth your while to read up on here a bit

Could have bigger issues if petrol is leaking from your tank

It's usually the green High Pressure fuel line that runs from the pump to the fuel pressure regulator mounted towards the rear of the cyl head. The line is available separately (no need to buy all four) P/N is YNI 500030 K and cost about $25

It runs from the top of the fuel pump (accessable by lifting the rear carpet and removing six screws and the cover plate) to a connector on the inside of the chassis near the drivers side rear wheel and should be held by two plastic clips on top of the chassis cross member. A bit awkward to get in and out but is doable without the need to drop the tank. Just be careful with the push on connectors, especially the one on top of the pump.

Naturally, you'll need to purge the system once reconnected.

That's basically it but as said above, there's more info in 'The Good Oil'

The seems to be a LR Bulletin for all occasions...

Recall Action: Diesel Fuel Pipe Foul Condition

    Attachment 45186

The TSB's on the commonly circulating RAVE CD only cover up to mid-2002. The recall was published mid-2006.

Add: This covers the fitting procedure for the "YNI 500030 K" kit that Xtreme mentions.

    cheers

Yes you're right dswatts. We don't have petrol leaking but instead it's Deisel, so not as big an issue!!!!

    Thanks extreme. So two questions:
-if I remove the floor panel is it easy enough to replace myself?
-if this is a recall, can I book it in to my local land rover guy and he repair it under recall costs?
-if I do it myself, any suggestions, apart from TRS at Lonsdale or, eBay where can I get the part from the easiest and quickest?

Just read through that recall PDF thanks Extreme. I am pretty sure that work has been done already as I can see the new grouped harness from lying under the vehicle as in the fixed picture. I think its something else. I will lift the cargo bay floor and have a look and see if I can see whats going on. The problem is: we both work tomorrow, I am working on saturday, the Mrs car is sold and the guy is picking it up Tuesday. So effectivley were already down to 1 car, now we could be down to 0 cars. Fun times ahead!

Towbar and tank have to be removed to get access, rear carpet pulled up to access top of fuel pump. I managed to repair mine with superglue and it has held for 8 months now.
