    D2 window frame rust!

    Attached are pics of my D2a manual front door frames. I noticed the rubber under the side mirror slightly deformed so had a look and I couldnt believe the amount of rust. There is also rust on the other side where the rubber meets the door frame near the B pillar. It appears to me that the frames were rusty and then painetd over from new as I had a lot of black paint to remove with rust under it before I got to clean metal. I have a 22 year old rangie with less rust at the same points. And just so you know dont try and fit D1 frames even if someone tells you they are the same as they are not. One of the legs is longer and the angle is sightly different/longer at the glass towards the front a pillar.
    I will clean off the rust on these then treat them then fiberglass and fill and paint. I still have the back to do and they seem just as bad, so maybe you all want to check yours.....

    I'm not totally surprised. A D2a I looked at a couple of weeks ago had rust just above the rubbers on all window frames, likewise a late model D1 I looked at as well.

    My deceased soft dash classic also had a similar problem with the rear door 1/4 window lower supports a few years ago. On replacing a smashed window the installer found the bottom support bracket badly corroded so the job became a 2 step process to allow me to clean up and repaint the offending item.

    I suspect that for these items landrover went a bit cheap in steel quality and the finish, but I would have thought that by the 21st century they would have been on top of it. Even the Italians had got their act together by then .

    Still its useful info and another thing to check when auditioning replacements for "Ricky".

    Just checked my rubbers on the windows and I can also see bubling under the paint. Thanks for the heads up.

    Mine had rust too. Rust converter is your friend.
