I purchase my manual car as originally I didn't want the added complication of the auto box.
After a couple of years of getting more into 'using' my car off road with others I noticed how much more control the auto boys had as they could tackle stuff a lot slower.
I could not bring myself to sell the car so converted it.
Wow thats awesome, And interesting to note how much work needs to go into it.
I had to do the fuel cooler o rings on my td5 today and declared that as too much of a pain, I could never do this :D
Wow, that looks like a lot of work . I was thinking of swaping mine from auto to manual and would like to know . Do i need to do all that wiring work or is that just for fitting an auto to a stock manual? I think if i have to do thw wiring then i will leave it an auto . Can one of you guys let me know please ? You would just need to see if you have the wiring for the clutch switch.
On a uk spec car the click switch as a round looking thing with a connection on each side for the clutch plumbing and a wiring connection on the bottom
It is on the drivers side inner wing.
I'd take a pic but I've ripped all the clutch pluming out of mine now:D
Can someone with a factory manual help?
It would be a great help of someone could post a picture put diagram of the clutch switch for me. I have searched , also looked on the rave cd but although I can see it in the wiring diagram I can't see what it looked like or where it is. I have all the other parts required for the swap but I don't want to start before I know how to complete the job. Thanks for the help. Bill
Im not going to start another manual vs auto argument, but i love my manual d2a and i'd never get an auto. Seems like a lot of effort considering manual d2s are rarer and more expensive (at least here in aus)
Ahha! I have found the clutch switch and there is a plug right there to join it in.
Monkiefone, I have been reading your Manual to Auto post with interest. I am in the same position as you and want an Auto Td5 but don't want to sell my vehicle as it has had time/money spent on it including a galvanised chassis. I have got a couple of questions, did you change the dashboard clocks as I know the auto has a gear indicator display next to the mileage? Did you need to do any programming to get the Engine/Gearbox/Body control ECU's to speak to each other?

Glad to here i'm not the only one who is mad enough to think about it! :D
No, you do not need new clocks for the conversion. Both Manual and Auto speedo clocks are the same. you just need to configure the BCU (using nanocom or similar) to Auto rather than manual.
The only other 'programming' required is setting the injector codes on the new engine ecu and clearing the Adaptation's memory in the Gearbox ecu.
