    I only just noticed

after owning my D2 for over a year now, I just noticed the D2 rear door doesn't have a key slot like the D1. Only realised it the other day after the central locking played up and was manually locking all doors. So what gives if you want to open the back door when the remote doesn't unlock and you have a cargo barrier fitted?

I've heard stories of central locking failing in the rear door. Even with cargo barrier there should be enough gap on the side to stick your arm through and unlock it (maybe use a stick or something if you can't reach). I don't think there's much else you can do.

The rear cargo door locking mechanism does give problems due to dust intrusion into the latch mechanism.

There is plenty of info on here. Search search search

The latch wont fail butit begins to get intermittent problems, plenty say pull the latch out and clean it but for mine, after having to pull the barrier out to gain internal access after a good clean did not really work, at first sign of trouble replace the latching mechanism.

And it always plays up when the rear is loaded and on a trip!

When the one on my Disco 1 failed, i searched and some one said you can access the lock mechanism through the land rover badge, I tried that, and couldn't for the life of me see how you can unlock it through there .
probably another idio's ( sorry I couldn't spell idiosyncrasies ) of Land Rovers to live with.

If it's just the fob that doesn't work, you still have the lock/unlock switch on the dash.

There's something inside that fails preventing the mechanism from functioning regardless of input. When I find out what it is it's going onto the preventative maintenance list. Like the previous stuff, lift, tyres, winch. They all prevent me getting stuck.

My 2002 Disco has 2 rubber seals fitted around the door catch/latch, It must be a genuine LR part, and possible available. I have noticed these seals were not fitted to earlier Disco 2's. Maybe this was an attempt by LR to fix the prob, So far its worked for me, no probs with the rear door!

My rear door doesn't unlock, but it locks automatically.. same with the front passenger door. Got around the rear door issue by taking off the electrical connection to the lock - at the moment it wont lock, but I can open and close it at will. The passenger door I haven't looked at yet. Might be a this weekend job again... see how we go.

your problem may be caused by a BCU programing, get some one with a Nanacom or Hawkeye to check the door lock programing.
It can be programmed to single door unlock, super lock, bathrobe, all door unlock.AFAIK this would not effect the locking as fob press to lock as it would lock all doors, It's the opening you need checked.
