I noticed on one of the UK Landy forums they are raving about Difflock Drainplugs - 4x4 Store - do they really make much of a difference? I can't say I've found taking the sump plug in and out to be hard...
Added on to my 300Tdi sump recently, only done a couple of changes since, but screw in the hose, and deliver oil directly to an oil drum, no drips, splashes or spilled oil (so far) given that vehicle is sitting in driveway, this is important. The drain rate is slower than by plug removal.

The concept is a great idea, but I would buy the Aussie version! Also, one reasons to do this is stripped thread. My Disco came with a stripped sump thread which I only discovered upon doing my first oil change and couldn't get the plug back in!

Approx. $30 from memory.
It's worse than that - they reckon you must by one of their drain hoses with the first drain plug you buy. Minimum outlay is £50.
The other "hot" drain plug seems to be the X-Plug (for diffs).

They are certainly not cheap, but worth every penny (cent, or whatever). I have now fitted them to all my trucks engines and will even fit them to the gear boxes next time an oil change is due. No more mess on the ground, no warm oil running up your sleeve anymore...
As for the stripped thread, as the plugs are made of brass, they will strip before the thread in the sump, so no problems here.
