The big lump of alloy that your water pump is bolted to, along with the power steering pump, air con compressor, and ace pump if your d2 is so equipped.

There is an o-ring between the back side of the bracket and the block which fails. One of the guru mechanics on the site recommends doing the o-ring at the same time as the pump, but very few seem to bother.

If you do the o-ring you unbolt the support bracket with the water pump in situ, and replace the water pump out of the vehicle.

Don't know what km's people see before the o-ring goes. Mine had done 210K km.

I didnt know you had to do it, but I do now.

I just did the water pump, thats all, no other seals or o-rings.

It's only essential if you have a leaking o-ring. It's more a preventative maintenance thing, and just as easy to do both at once. If you run green coolant the leaky o-ring can be difficult to pick up until it is leaking badly and coolant loss is obvious in the expansion tank.

Coopers in sydney only ever change the water pump that way. good enough for me!

Fair enough. Checking back I think Justinc recommended changing the pump when the o-ring went rather than vice versa.

Any suggestions as to where I can get one of these seals quickly by post? I'm replacing the water pump next weekend, so might as well replace it asap.

Even the aprt number would do if someone can help

Coopers in sydney will do it , as i said they only ever do the pump change with a change of O ring for block mounting, and as previously stated you dont have to fiddle with the centrifugal oil filter assembly doing it that way
