    TC / Auto Locking Diff

    Hello,
If an auto locking diff needs a certain amount of wheel spin to engage,
then would it get a chance to engage or would the traction control just kick in anyway before the auto locking diff? How does that work?
    Cheers.

if your talking about a full detroit locker it actually works as an auto-unlocking locker. driving in a straight line it is locked, when you start to corner it senses the different wheel speed and unlocks.
the other type is the tru-trac version which from what i have read works well in the d2 front or back, it works a little like and lsd diff but with the traction control adding a little resistance to the wheel gives it added performance.

do some more searching on here as there are a few people with both types.

    Thanks Yorkie,

I have read a lot of threads on the different diff set up's that people have.
Sounds to me like the Ashcroft ATB with TC is 99% perfect.
And if you have "proper" locking diff's (air locking, etc) you would only lock them either once you actually stuck, or rather having that "2nd attempt" with the locker in.
Or if you know that a bit of track is most definitely going to need it, you lock it. Is that right? Your'e not really going to drive around "off-road" with it (rear locker) engaged.
Sounds a lot easier to have the ATB & TC.

    I think I will put this (Ashcroft ATB front & rear 4.11) in me '99 D2, it's already got the CDL, 2" lift & 265/75/16 coopers STT's

Anyone got this set up or very similar???
I know the 4.11 is more reduction than required, but I only drive this on weekends etc, as it's a 4.6 V8 (no lpg) it's just for play
If I work out the RPM on the Ashcroft website, it should only be about 100RPM higher than stock. (with my tyres)

    Cheers,
    Daniel.

    In relation to your diff ratio;
    • 4.12 brings it back to stock with 33's
    • 4.37 brings it back to stock with 35's
Using 4.12 with your tyres would rev slightly higher but I should not think would make much difference.

    Cheers,
    Daniel.
Hi Daniel sorry I can't help you on this as I only have the CDL and 2"lift myself. My question for you is do your copper stt's rub at all on the radius arms etc? I want to get these for my 02 d2 and will prob go them even if there is minimal rubbing. Just want to hear it from someone with the same specs as my car. Thanks in advance mate.

    Hi Trevor,

I don't think they rub at all as far as I can tell.
But I have not had it at full lock and got under to look, sorry.
    I really should do that.
But otherwise, I don't notice or hear any rubbing.

    Cheers,
    Daniel.
