Question Are my steering stoppers missing?

On my truck when I turn the steering wheel full lock the tyres contact the trailing arms to the front diff. I was looking for where to adjust the steering stopers, but can't find anything. I did find a threaded hole and opposite is a ledge, is this where my stoppers should be?

Anyone got a picture of what I am missing - is it a special Land Rover specific piece or just a bolt?

Yes they are missing, silly thing to remove as the CV operates on a more acute angle and will be closer to failure when under duress

The stops are just a bolt with a long hex head, IIRC about 20mm long? I can measure/ photo some for you tomorrow and send you a pic, can you PM me your mobile number?

Thanks. Hopefully I'll be able to match them up easy enough at Nuts and Bolts Tasmania then.

Could probably use a stud and loctite an appropriate length barrel nut to it

they're just a long head bolt..

find a bolt thats longer than needed, screw it in, measure out how much you need to take off take it out, cut it off wind on a nut.

add loctite 262 to the bolt, wind it back in, add loctite to the thread and wind the nut down firm.

from memory 21mm is the magic number for longevity and turning circle.

I took out my long stops and made adjustable ones with a cap head bolt and a nut.

As you can see the new ones are shorter than the originals.

With my modified ones I can adjust them till I get the best turning circle without any rubbing.

Del, can you tell me the length of the complete standard assembly - i.e. the complete length from the end of the thread to the end of the hex?

    Here yo go fella,s.

The 28mm stops were used on vehicles that had 18" alloys.

I think that blknight was right in saying the lentgh of the stops for the 16" wheels was 21mm.

I have LR " Style 3 " alloys on mine with 255/70/16 BFG at,s, and my modified stops are about 21mm.

It made a BIG difference in the turning circle when I changed them.

    Cheers.

Thanks Del. I'll go and get a bolt that is 50mm long end to end then and I can cut it down if required. I can put it on a lock nut setup like yours.
