Hi all.
As i have the head off the Td5i would like to install the VDO pyrometer that i have bought.
After reading many threads on these i have found that some people have fitted the thermocouple to the blanking plate for the EGR at the end of the manifold and some have welded a boss onto the exhaust dump pipe.
The blanking plate would be the easiest place to put it but i dont think it will give an accurate reading in this position.
I think the dump pipe is best but unsure of the correct location.
Any pro's,cons or tricks for beginners?
Does anyone have a photo of a dump pipe mounted thermocouple?
Many thanks

the best place to put the EGT sender is in the middle of the manifold before the flange that the turbo bolts onto.

Blknight is correct.
However, that requires your manifold to be drilled and threaded and only gives a short space for the probe to go in - my probe is twice as long as what that would allow.
I'd go with the blanking plate, you can buy these already with a hole and threaded. This gives you a reading close to the exhaust ports for at least the first two or three cylinders.
In the dump pipe is further down the exhaust system and after the turbocharger, so would be less accurate as a reading of the cylinder temperatures.
My install in amongst this thread. My thoughts only.
Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info guys.
Looks like it's going in the middle of the manifold and not the dump pipe.
Cheers
