The fan on the TD5 does run very close to the rad.I used a tarp across the front, had no problems with deep water crossings.
Happens to the LC100 as well.

Gday Al I rung the RACV number which I think automatically went to RACQ "I think" lol I try to block it out . I was dealing with RACQ on this occation. I reckon I done the radiator when the front kind of dove into the water, I did not go in/through quick, was quite slow really. I know how to do water crossings safely although it would appear not on this occation :(. It did'nt take much to do the damage unfortunately. Lesson learnt? well I hope so
For what it is worth, and don't ask why! I used pop rivets, so need a drill and bit, and an air bag (rear suspension SLS). I would suggest you phone someone like Hyper Tuned in Cairns and ask how they may be able to get parts sent to where you may be in the Cape if required.
Mr automotive Brisbane do a "spares kit" for big trips. You put down a deposit take the kit and only pay for what you use. They have also told me I can call and they will overnight parts to just about anywhere.

Tee hee hee
Brisbane to Cairns Overnight (if they courier) Auspost will be two days -
Just keep adding days on from that depending on where you want the bits?
A Cairns supplier can overnight to Cooktown its plus plus plus from there though unless you know someone at Hinterland or Skytrans
The trick is to carry enough emerg repairs stuff to keep mobile - then make your phone call and get new bits sent to the next available post office - Which in reality will be either Cooktown Coen Weipa or Bamaga
