1. 2inch lift new suspension
2. CDL reinstated
3. winch

So now need to think about spares

Join RACQ total care the biggest worry is the idiot/lunatics so called 4x4 drivers if the vehicle is well maintained spares can be kept to a min. Have a good trip,listen to returning drivers for advice and conditions.Lochie

I would'nt count on total care to help. I had total care (RACV) on our last trip to Qld. I broke down in my TD5 about 12k's up the beach on Bribie. I managed to somehow put the fan through the radiator going through a washout and did'nt show up till further down the beach when I basically ran out of water. RACQ would not help me. They basically said get the vehicle to where a 2 wheel drive could access it and then they'd help. I said how the bloody hell do you suppose I do that with a big hole in my radiator. Water was coming out quicker than I could put in. RACV assured me I was covered under that scenario but "I was'nt"!. So do'nt always rely on autoclub help as sometimes it does'nt fit their criteria. BTW I'm not bashing them they do a good job but was dissapointing as I was under the understanding they would help me in that sort of situation.

When you fanned the radiator did you call RACV or RACQ first?

Is there any way to prevent the fan from biting the radiator? or would it be better just to take a spare?
And do you need long range tanks for the cape? Planning to do it next year, so I'm starting to budget for it now....not so much fun

If it was for a specific bit of terrain (Eg. river crossing), it's a 30 second job to take it off.

Reminds me of the "First Overland". They had to take the fan out before river crossings or it splashed water over the engine and it stopped mid crossing. Gotta love old petrol engines!

What about a thermatic fan, i.e just switch it off when you cross the river...
And isn't that what the tarp is supposed to do?

That's awesome. I have to ask though, how many of the spares and tools have you used in break down situations? Or have they been good peace of mind so far? I always want to take an entire workshops worth of tools, but can't fit them and don't know where to draw the line!!
