    "Chip It" Diesel Performance Solutions

I recently posted a thread about modifing or moving on from my d2a td5. After the feed back and advice I received, I have decided to tweak the disco so have been busy looking at the different ECU upgrades that are on the market, while doing this I came across a company called "Chip It". After looking at the information on their website and speaking to one of the "Chip It" gents, it appears to look like a good product. Some of the features include free electronic boost control and a EGT controlled tunning safety feature along with other sensor inputs and controls. The KW and Torque figures quoted on their website are better than what some other Plug and Play Modules quote. Has any body else looked into or fitted one of these modules.

    Hello,
You would be better to do a remap as this is much better for your car it modify s all the values in the ECU most likely you would need a boost box, and bigger intercooler to get the best effects.
I have a TD5 Inside on mine and would recommend them very good people to deal with.
I am very happy with mine lots of power. having a few issues right now but wouldn't change it for anything.

Also highly recommend TD5 inside - they drive landies AND have excellent customer service. Plus if you have or can get a nanocom, they have a special for AULRO members - from memory 4340?

    Hello chook

I had my DTUK plug in chip delivered to my doorstep within 10 days of purchase for(it was a while ago) about $550, plus about another $100 for the Auber instrumnets EGT and sensor. I did it this way because of cost. I would have had to purchase a flashable ECU on top of the cost of having the ECU reprogrammed.
I've done 85,000Km on the chip now, with no issues.
I don't doubt that having the ECU reprogrammed is good, although I have heard of some bad installations of what must be the incorrect programme to suit the particular vehicle done by back yarders.
But first hand, I have had no issues in a 99 TD5 Disco2 and, I know of a Defender TD5 that has had a plug in chip for years and done many more kilometers than what I have, also with no issues.

    Cheers,

    Jason

I had a plug is chip by twisted performance that managed to brick 2 ecu's In the space of 5 years. Don't get me wrong the power was great but it was kind of like driving a 2 stroke motorbike, nothing much happens then boom its away.

I have now gone to a stage 3 td5 inside map and couldn't be happier as I already had all the egt removed, big intercooler, new hoses, air box mods, boost box ect. The td5 map has just as much go but makes a much more drivable vehicle for sure.

    Cheers

    Thanks

I've been looking at a number of forums and there are a lot of options regarding getting more power and torque out of a TD5. I appreciate the feedback and advice that has been given. Not being mechanically minded I am a bit reluctant to order from either interstate or overseas and would if possible prefer to have the work done locally (Townsville). At least that way if things go pear shaped I can approach the supplier to assist with working through any issues.

Chook, by way of example, I initially shared your concerns. However, Jose at TD5Inside (LR fanatic and in Portugal) is occassionally on this forum and is more than happy to keep playing (if necessary) to get just what you want in a remap - can all be done by email. Remaps are supposed to be much safer, because in my poor explanation, you actually change the "ínstructions" to your car, rather than try and mask them with an external chip. As I said before, if you can get on to someone with a nanocom (or make a wise investment and buy one yourself), you are halfway there. Both actions were the best thing I ever did on the advice of others from this forum.

I also looked around and decided to go for a Davis Performance ECU remap that the boys at M.R Automotive installed. Very happy with it as its a remap not a plug in and Davis knows his Landies.

My TD5 D2 only gets turbo lag on cold mornings in which you never rev hard anyway. With my custom exhaust that Fat Pipes fitted I am extreemly happy with it now. No longer does it feel under performing.

But remover the cat and the large muffler and only run the one towards the end of the exhaust, sound better and drives a lot better.

After I bull bar and bigger tyres a bigger intercooler is on the cards.
