help needed. which one to buy

alright following on from a previous thread I am now in the difficult position of having to many choices. We can buy the original car ,eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d,
for $16000 or this one, 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY TD5 03MY SUV Private Cars For Sale in NSW - carsales.com.au
for a little more. I am leaning towards the latter but what do you guys think?
It has fewer mods and possibly less offroad worthy tires but a lot less K's on the clock. Thanks again and all suggestions really appreciated

since the ebay auction is ended it looks like you're down to one choice...probably the one I would have chosen on your place
I have highway tyres on my D2 & its amazing how far you can actually get with them - just take recovery gear so you can get out if/when you exceed the limits - above all, have fun

When off roading I like the way the auto functions as a manual in low range, you can change gears with no loss of traction, specially handy in sand/mud, in the manual you sink into the soft stuff during the shift so u end up staying in the gear you are in which is most times lower than needed once you get up and going.

if its a choice between manual v auto My preference is go the auto.

My previous was a D1 V8 manual, Wouldn't go back.

If you find a car that looks good, don't waste your time posting questions here. As has happened far to frequently in the past few months a potential purchaser posts to the forum, waits for responses, mulls the responses, posts further questions, and by the time they make a decision the vehicle they were looking at has sold.

My advice is make a list of features you want, then when something comes on on ebay or carsales which meets those criteria, contact the seller and arrange to drive the vehicle. If it drives well, at both 60kph and 100kph, and looks clean and straight organise to get the vehicle inspected by a specialist.

    cheers

    Hi Paul
I really do appreciate your advise even though it seems to be a bit critical towards my approach. NOW while it SEEMS to be that one car is not available anymore that's not really the case. I am still in touch with the seller and will have to commit soon. Because of this time pressure and me not wanting to miss a opportunity I am posting here. If I had all the time in the world I'd read up some more and try and find a few more locals here with knowledge about Disco's.
To conclude: My intention re my posts is to waste as little time as possible incl. the repliers, and get as much information as possible. I am new to LR and there seem to be issues but I can also see myself driving one so here we are. Thanks again Harald

    Harald,

Easy answer to your problem: Go drive the car and see if you like it. If you do give the owner a holding deposit on the condition that you want the car inspected by a specialist. If he doesn't agree to that look for another D2. wash, rinse, repeat until you find a D2.

Seriously, you are the only person who can make the decision to purchase, and no amount of hand wringing on the forum will make that any easier.

    cheers
