how did you bleed it up?
Hi all,
I'm still getting some gurgling in the heater matrix happening on my TD5. No coolant loss, no overheating, I'm pretty sure I've bled it correctly. On long runs it stops gurgling and if I hold revs it doesn't gurgle constantly. I'm either looking at a slow air leak in overnight (but can't find a leak) or the possibility of a cracked head/HGF (had a new head gasket 18 months ago though) No bubbles out of bleed screw.
The motor runs superbly, no hiccups or anything - I'm getting some pressure in the top hose when running that disappears as soon as the motor is off so I'm just assuming that this is normal pressure caused by water flow? I can squeeze the hose a bit when it's running.
Other thought is a blocked matrix that can't be bled fully?
I'm stumped

If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
have you replaced the coolant tank cap ever, maybe leaking or not relieving pressure when needed.
New coolant cap 2 months ago.
Bled with the tank lifted up, bleed screw running clear, rev the motor, heater on high, take it for a run, check level. As I say, it never loses anything, which I thought it would do with a pressurising issue....
Check the hose when it's cold ... should be soft. Drive until it's up to temperature, and with the engine still running, check the hose again ... should be quite firm/solid ... drive home and park. Stop the engine. Check the hose. It should be as firm as it was at the previous check.
Over the next 6 hours or so, keep checking the hose. It should progressivley get softer and softer as the water temperature drops until the whole sheebang is as cold as the first check, at which point the hose should be as soft as it was for the first check.
If it's all as outlined above, I believe you have no issue (esp' if there is no coolant loss). A given volume of water will expand as the temperature rises, which is where the increased pressure in your hoses come from.

Thanks Fluids, that's how it appears to be when I've checked it all before, soft when cold, firm when warm and running and progressively softer when not running...
Ah well, guess I'll leave it alone and just drive the thing....
... and keep an eye on it !
If it's not using/loosing coolant I guess all's good ?

If its gurgling its not bled fully...
Park on a steep angle, nose up... Lift the coolant bottle free and up and repeat bleeding process.
One time I had to put only my Right front wheel up on the service ramp to get rid of all the air from the depths of wherever it goes to.
after that , no gurgles.
