Have had Dueler 693's after the orginal Michelins wore out. Theses were AT but weren't Light truck. Lasted about 45K. Used in the snow and Innamminka mud. Highway cruise should be ok, but for any offroad I'd go the LT's. They would only be a few dollars more per tyre..
Bridgestone Dueler 694's 245/70/16 purchased in Dec 11 were about $255ea fitted.
Would loved to have tried the Cooper ST's but have been hearing not so good reports.
Bridgestones also good in the wet on bitumen!!! Coopers Not so well after 30k. (mates Prado).

I have just purchased Bridgestone Dueler 697's 245/70/16 for $255 a corner and are LT tyres, I dont think I had a option for non LT, go LT as they also have deeper tread pattern.
I do alot of sand / beach driving and so far so good and great in the wet also,

I've just purchased a D2a which is fitted with near new Cooper AT3 245/70 LT tyres. I can confirm strangy's comment that this size increase results in accurate speedo readings.
Compared to the 235/70 passenger version the 245/70 LT version has a 20kph lower speed rating at 170kph but a much higher load capacity 1320kg vs 950kg.
I'm certainly happy with them and would recommend them to anyone.

By circumstance, 255/70-16 Cooper S/T's ... fronts have 30k, rears have 93k (with 20k left comfortably I reckon).
These are passenger construction. Not the LT's.
No issues, no failures, 2 x punctures in the last 40k (rears - tek screw in driveway / tek screw in an old army camp)

I have narrowed down my choice:
245/70/16 in LT.
Cooper AT3 or Pirelli Scorpion ATR
I can read good points on both brands, it seems Pirelli is on top.... will decide next week after I look at prices.

today we had 5 Scorpion ATR LT245/70/16 mounted. The fitter recommended 38PSI on all 4, but it feels a bit hard, specially in the front.
Will try different combinations. Any suggestions?
PS The tyres are Made in China like most of them now.

I run 30psi front and 38psi rear with 245/75R16 Maxxis Bighorn muddies. Thats what the placard says, and seems to be fine. Tyre pressures are a huge can of worms though!

Yes most of them are made in china mate for the pressures try 34 in front and 36 in the rear the height of th side wall plays a bit in it as well any probs give me a call.

My Pirellis have 37 all round hwy and they are firm.
30 front and 32 rear on the dirt.
Sand in the low 20's all round.

The 4 psi test is the way to go for black top use and the pink road house guide for dirt road is derived from real use experiences.
On the blacktop My scorpion ATR are LT and run at 2 psi over placard when unloaded and the rear need around 40/42 when loaded up. Wear is even and ride is great.
Great tyre with impeccable puncture resistance.
