the LT will be fine, just mess with the pressures a bit...
try 28/34 as a starting combo.
Hello,
I am planning to upgrade the tyres of our 2000 td5 auto. Most of the use is black top and some towing a road caravan (1800kg). I am thinking of cooper at3 as they are available in the 235/70/16 in passenger style or 225/75/16 in LT. I like the 10 ply of the LT specially for towing, but I am not sure if they would be too hard for normal use.
I appreciate your comments.
Thank you.

If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
Def go the LT!
Were abouts are you in australia.

As said go the LT's.
The only way to go if you want NO tyre issues.
As for coopers, not many good reports on here, but each to their own.
Hi Sandro
Also consider going up a size to LT 245 70 16 which has a higher load rating but would not affect your gearing for towing. If your TD5 was chipped i would recommend the 245 75 16.

What sort of Speed rating is on the LT tyres?
What Brands are people using, costs etc.
Are these tyres specifically for on road, or can you drop the pressure and head off road with half way decent success?
Hi,
Load and speed rating (from the website)
Passenger 235/70R16 are 106T
LT 225/75R16 115R
Not sure about the other 2 questions
Sandro
Great run from Pirelli Scorpion ATR 245/70/16LT. This size gives an accurate speedo on my D2.
1000's of posts on tyres.
As before LT is the go and plenty to choose from. What's the budget ?
Remember to ensure your spare is the same size as the others if you change sizes. Cheers
