I asked the a similar question recently

Well I finally bought myself a D2a td5 -
It has 118 000 km, alpaca leather and in great condition in general. Good service records.
I bought it from a used car dealer that only had the car 2 days before I found it for sale, so no photos yet. Paid extra for an independent warranty, with no requirement to have it serviced anywhere specific
Anyway, the vehicle is in Port Melbourne and I am wanting it to be inspected before I pick it up (only paid deposit at this stage).
Is Melbourne City Land Rover a competent place to have an inspection done?
The vehicle can be delivered there by the used car dealer, for free, or I could pick it up and take it somewhere else if I desire.
Is it worth taking it to a certain workshop that anyone recommends instead? (Ritters, etc) I would probably save some money at a specialist, but my main concern is how good a job they do.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I would be happy and confident about a Ritters pre purchase inspection.
So Ritters better then Melbourne City Land Rover?
Hi
Do get a pre purchase inspection. An independent landrover specialist would be the first option in my opinion, followed by RACV on one of the pre vehicle inspection specialists. I'm not from Vic but Ritters and Deacons are 2 that have popped up consistently over the years on the Internet as being land rover specialists.
I bought a D2a a few weeks ago in WA. The pre purchase inspection by my mechanic identified a few issues. All were fixed before delivery and the dealer was happy for my mechanic to do the work. While most of the issues would have been covered by the statutory warranty after sale there were a couple which woudn't been so identifying them before settling the deal is worth while.
Cheers
Steve.
Alright I shall go to Ritters! I have paid a deposit and it is subject to a mechanical inspection.
Thanks.
Ritter's are extremely thorough with their checks. The level of detail can be a bit overwhelming, and they are fairly exacting.Originally Posted by shibby73

Ditto re the turbo. Yes Ritters are good, but they quoted a friend of mine almost $1900 for a replacement turbo, he got it done elsewhere for $890. Yes I saw the quote and the invoice.
What a shame to risk a great reputation for a grand here or there.

New garret turbos go for $1100-1300 in Aus, and even sourcing from the UK you'd be lucky to land one for under $8-900. I wonder what you get for $890 fitted?Originally Posted by wardy1
