Ignition Problems
Hi guys,
I did a quick search but most of the problems I found were immobilisers problems.
I jumped in the Disco to leave work tonight and couldn't turn the key. The steering isn't locked, and is still loose yet the key wont turn.
Any thoughts?
Oh, and by the by, it'll be spending the night at work.

Not an uncommon problem.
The tumblers in the lock barrel have either stuck or the steering has jammed the lock plunger in the column. The weight/force of the steering is jammming up the plunger and hence you can't turn the key.
Try taking the strain on the steering wheel and lifting the load off the lock plunger at the same time as trying the key.
The other alternative is to get the lock off the column and take it to a locksmith for repair if the barrel is crooked.
I can send you an instructional PM to achieve this so that you won't be stuck at work!
Normally I would post it but some forum moderators frown on teaching people to nick landrovers.

Thanks Dennis!
Happily we had some graphite powder at work which seems to have done the trick for the moment.
Hopefully it's not an ongoing issue. Ha

It's a common problem - steel key, brass tumblers - there's only one winner in that scenario.
Try some lithium grease - you can get it in a spray can from Jaycar for about $16.99 - worked for me and has been fine for about 2 years now. I was all set to go down one of the alternate repair routes, e.g. remove lock and extract innards etc but it's never been a problem since...
