Front driveshaft grease points?

It was ONLY fitted on the Td5 Auto's built after 1A720478 from the factory. So unfortunately for the D2a owners it's not a D2a differentiator ;)

Bundalene has pulled one of these joints apart and posted pics of the internals:

LR released a tech bulletin (L8668bu) covering fitting this design to earlier designs to address an issue of "An audible boom noise at approximately 2400 rev/min, evident in all gears".

The cause of the issue was that

2400rpm is in the middle of the dreaded Td5 Auto "Drone Zone", so I have a suspicion that the altered shaft was designed to address this.

Hi Simon.

I ordered one direct from Tom Wood after recieving the shaft. I had several emails back & forth discussing the merits for/against, and I gather Tom seems to be a "no gaiter" (he calls it a "boot") guy, due to most people over greasing the gaitered join, causing out of balance & boot failures due to excessive grease ending up in the boot, causing issues once rotating at speed.

He emailed me a detailed assembly instruction on fitting the gaiter correctly & correct greasing procedure when fitting the gaiter. If you want a copy let me know & I'll forward it.

In the end I chose to fit a gaiter as we drive stockton beach a bit, and the sand is very fine, and keeping the sand out of the spline seemed to be a very sensible idea! :)
