"Currently, the front propeller shaft on diesel automatic derivatives has a sliding spline joint, which has a high plunge stiffness under torque. This may allow vibration to be transmitted along the propeller shaft into the vehicle interior, which can be sensed as an audible boom at 2400 rev/min."

"Where a complaint of the above is confirmed, replace the front propeller shaft with a new specification propeller shaft now available from Land Rover Parts.
The new propeller shaft incorporates a revised sliding joint, which uses ball bearings to reduce the sliding resistance of the propeller shaft under torque."
2400rpm is in the middle of the dreaded Td5 Auto "Drone Zone", so I have a suspicion that the altered shaft was designed to address this.
