    RESURRECT THE LEGEND

    hi all.,
have td5 230klms treat her well but recently on a trip back from the bush loaded and going up an incline she overheated stopped left running losing a little water at the time continued with heater on full at slow speed managed to nurse her home .,had a good look around the engine bay eliminating the obvious airbleed cracks leaks etc ., at idol she would not heat up but on the highway within a couple a miles temp straight up and over then limited speed home changed out viscous fan thermostat and had water pump replaced preceeding this event and the head was done 30k earlier with new head bolts .,a couple of anomalies were i noticed rear diesel filter was hot previous to the overheat and on the way home with the heater on full it blew from hot to cold intermitantly with changing engine performance .,also when parked up she decided not to start with no warning lights appearing .,all feedback most welcome thanks

A couple of things come to mind..
Was the cooling system bleed properly?
    Double check the viscous fan.
    It maybe a blocked radiator.

The fuel filters do run warm on the TD5 so I don't think it's related.
    Cheers, Kyle

    Corny but,

Is the thermostat on the correct way? Pump arrow marking on t/s to pump? This will make it run REALLY hot! And the t/s actually can be made to fit....

Good luck running the problem down.

    Definitely possible.
My D2 had the thermostat fitted incorrectly when I bought it. It would overhead at speed. I discovered the problem while I had the head off to replace the head gasket - it failed as a consequence of the incorrectly fitted thermostat.

Mine also had intermittent heater operation and the sound of coolant bubbling through the heater matrix while driving. This was due to the blown head gasket.

    Good Luck

    hi again .,
put in new radiator and checked thermostat full of rusty buildup probably the whole cause ., as rad had been like that for years .,doesnt explain air in the system tho.,originally put in new waterpump poss moving rust from system backing up in thermstat .,easy to miss as i didnt check due to being new.,
