Ipod friendly stereo's for D2a

The steering controls are pretty much identical across the range. I think the main difference is that the high-line equipped vehicles have a green wire instead of grey/red on the mid-line d2s.

Regardless, the wiring comes up to one of the ISO plugs at the back of the radio. The swi-ps install consists of connecting three wires from the swi-ps into the factory harness, and grounding the second wire from the steering controls. There is a mini jack that plugs straight into the remote socket on back of the sony head unit. If the installers are doing the install at the same time I'd be tempted to say that $80 install charge on top of the $150 for the interface is a bit of a gouge. If you know someone that is ok with car electrics/stereo installs I'd probably call in a beer favour tbh.

The swi-ps (the "ps" indicates it is designed for pioneer/sony head units) is a bit of a commodity item so my strategy would be to look for lowest combined purchase and shipping price, and then check that the sellers feedback is 99% or better. You can't really go wrong that way :)

Depending on what system you already have in the D2, the install could be anything from straight forward to mildly complicated. The high-line/harmon kardon systems with additional amp will require a bit of fiddling to adapt the pre-amp outputs to the harness for the amp, and in that case the charges look pretty reasonable.

If you have a mid-line system it's really just plug and play, with the possibility that they'd need to patch the power for the memory back-up. The aerpro ISO -> Sony harness I got from super cheap didn't have this wired in. Again if you can manage to wrangle a mate who knows what they are doing it's probably about 1 hour all up doing the head unit and swi-ps interface.

Installed the steering remote switch this afternoon, so should be able to do the swi-ps install in the next couple of days.

Retro-fitting the remote switch is actually pretty straight forward, with the trickiest part being making the hole for the switch assembly.

With the air-bag off it's pretty clear where the hole needs to go. I pull the cruise control switch and made a template from the cut out for that. I also measured and marked from a couple of reference marks in the moulding to ensure the hole ended up in roughly the right location. You can see the plug for the stereo remote in the slot next to the horn button.

The resulting hole looks a bit like a mouse has been gnawing on the plastic, but it ended up pretty close to the right size and was in the correct location. The rubber around the base of the switch hides any nasties.

The wiring from the switch hooks under the white clip, and the plugs sit back in the slot shown in the first pic. All very straight forward and looks like it came from the factory :)

What's even better..I got it through JB Hi Fi who had 30% off all audio ( on here in QLD till Sunday)....so knocked off $100+ which now pays for the interface and facia. That should be here Monday...then can get it installed after that...can't wait...already got over 200 tunes on the iPod...ready for Smokey to start a rockin :cool:,

Hey mate...from what I can see it is....it says suited for iPod and iPhone on the box ( its still in the box). Best online price I found for it was Ryder...I got mine from JB Hi Fi..and from what I could see playing around with it...the internal would fit an iphone....maybe worth visiting one to make sure,
