    Engine Saver Install

    Hi all.
I'm fitting one of those neat Engine Saver alarms and a battery monitor to my TD5. I'm fairly handy with the fitting of stuff like this but wondered as usuall if there is an easy way to bring the wires from the sensor in the engine bay through the bulkhead into the cabin? Maybe following the route through of something else?
I dont have a garage so it will be done in my driveway - as its daylight saving I was out in the dark with a torch poking around looking for an access point I can run the wires through without too much upheaval of LR's finest.
I wont be installing it in the dark - I'll wait for the w/e, any help or tips appreciated.
    Cheers / Andy

Andy, I've run quite a few wires from the engine bay into the cabin and the easiest route is in through the main engine loom grommet on the driver's side next to the brake servo,

I always use a length of an outboard engine throttle/gear inner wire as a 'pull through', although you can use anything as long as it is stiff and flexible enough. Push it through the grommet and into the cabin and then tape your wire(s) to the pull through and then feed the lot through. Easy as...

The wires will then come out just above the throttle pedal. Make sure you cable tie securely out of the way so they don't interfere with the pedal movement or cause any driving drammas. If you then pull down the access panel below the steering wheel you will find a steel bar/brace that runs across to the front of the centre console. Cable tie you wire(s) along that and then to wherever you are going to mount your Engine Saver Alarm.

    Cheers Dave

From memory, on my D2a there is a spare grommet in the passenger footwell readily accessible behind the carpet. May require you to remove the glovebox though. In the engine bay you can easily remove the horn (i think) and its mounting bracket and then peel back the firewall sound deadener to expose the grommet from engine bay side. -another easy access one, whichever works!

I'm away from my D2 down at the Gold Coast at the mo, but if I remember correctly there is also another grommet next to the engine loom which has only one or two wires going through so you could also use that..

    Thanks Dave
I had a look around the brake servo area during day light today, I can see where you mean. I'm thinking coat hanger wire to prod the wires through. Once in it should be fairly straight forward as I've already been under the dash to wire in my CB.
    I appreciate the tips

Not sure what is on the end of your engine saver wires but sometimes I push a heavier wire through the grommet and then solder the wire I want through to the end of it and pull it through, may not be too good if there is a connector involved. Usually put a bit of silicon to seal it all up later.

On the rubber oval shaped grommet under the brake booster, are a number of little concertina'd little rubber tits ... cut the tit down and there's a hole to put your cables through !

Lube up the cable with a touch of innox, then push through the hole until you have around 300mm or so through, then pull through from the drivers footwell.

Engine sensor wire has a male bullet crimp lug end. The grommet/hole just stretches to accomodate the lug.

Installing now. Does anyone have a suggestion for which route to run the wire from the sensor to the rubber teats near the main engine loom grommet? I want to choose a path that ensures that I'm not too close to a hot surface (exhaust manifold, etc) but nice and securely attached with cable ties.
