Maxxis bighorns in 245/75r16. They are reasonably quiet for a muddie, and seem to be wearing pretty well 28,000kms in. Got them for a great price, adn love them. Just been up the Oodnadatta, across the French Line in the Simpson and down the Birdsville track. Have had to play around to get pressures right on different surfaces, but seem to have worked it out.

From their site, it looks like the Pirelli Scorpion ATRs are only available as one LT = 245/70 and 3 P versions ie P205/80 104T XL, P265/70 112T and P275/70 114T.
My immediate thought is stick with LT, but any experiences with the P versions? I'm not into hard core 4WD driving, but yes to gravel, rocks etc
I have scorpion ATR 235/70 16's on mine and yes they are only rated as a passenger tyre.
I too was a bit concerned with this as I wanted a LT tyre, but I have had no problems with mine, I don't do anything too extreme, but have used them on gravel, sand, mud and rocks, and have no chipping or noticable wear, which is more than can be said about the BFG's I used to run on my D1.
I think a lot of it comes down to the right pressure for the terrain, I always air down when I head off the bitumen.

Not much that I liked about these and they are very noisy for a street pattern, although they do give good km's

I thought they performed well, but the tyre is very very fragile and tore apart with very mild driving. Not a stable carcass at all which creates a lot of movement in the vehicle. I'd never buy them again

Performed well for a mud of its design. Again, an unstable carcass. Wear rate was high.
285/75-16 Goodyear MTR
Highly rate these tyres! Great traction on the road and on rock, a little slippery in the greasy mud, but its apparently not a mud tyre, extra strong carcass and I got a lot of km's out of these. The most awesome touring tyre and also a very livable daily tyre which is what they were. Very smooth for an open pattern tyre, no typical mud tyre lumpiness.
285/75-16 Pirelli ATR
Highly rate these tyres as a road tyre as they are whisper quiet, ultra smooth and have heaps of traction in the dry and wet. Off road in the dry they also have good traction, most notably on dry smooth rock they will out drive any mud tyre. Damp offroad is fine, I wouldn't like to try mud... actually I did once in my paddock, I went down to the chassis and it took me a day to dig and winch out again.

Not so good as a road tyre, but I would and have done distance trips with these tyres on. They don't handle as badly as people make out but they don't handle well. Very noisy and the carcass flat spots over night which remains for the first few km's until the tyre warms up. Offroad they are awesome. You would be very unlucky to get bogged with these, and if you do it'll be because you got hung up on something. If you fail to proceed then you can probably reverse out. Heaps of traction generated by the tread pattern, so really good in mud, rough rocky ground etc. Its weakness is smooth rock where there the rubber compound doesn't give as much traction. The tyre is also my choice for places like Cape York where there are lots of corrugations (run fully loaded at 20psi and let the tyres soak up the corrugations) and mud such as in the river crossings. The 11.5 is a better tyre than the 10.5 for smoothness, stability and traction with the additional centre rib.
235 85 16 maxxis 751's. Great tyre for $220 a corner. Not so great in mud but they're an all terrain after all. LT construction and wont foul if the sls goes down :)

Son just put a set of KM2's on the deefer,and after 9k of desert work,they are pretty well cut up.Lots of cuts mainly between the tread blocks,more than likely the very rocky tracks caused this.
I have never had the BFG A/T's do this.

I am happy with the Maxxis 751 Bravo AT tyres I out on my Defender for the 60th Anniversary in Cooma.
So were the half a dozen others that I spoke to when I saw that they had the same tyre before I bought mine.
