I first fitted some 285/75/16 BFG AT KM's to the d2. these were 2nd hand, hard as a rock and lasted about 40,000 k's, not bad for ave 8mm tread. Before that was some silverstone roadies that considering they were semi slicks lasted prety ok.

Next (and first new tyre I fitted for it) was Federal Couragia MT's in 265/75/16. Considered next to Bridgestone 694's, Kuhmo's, Maxxis, Goodyear. Selected as much on price as anything. Dealer talked me and others while I've been there out of Coopers (despite being a dealer, hates them with a passion). A bit noisy at first, like they are cast as a flat sheet then wrapped (as they are) but the blocks are mounded with a flat face instead of rounded so it feels lumpy but that goes away in less than a thousand k's. Wearing really well and under #250-ea.

D1 and D2 originally had Michelin 4x4's, really hard tyre and wear well, but we had a lot of punctures with them, rocks on dirt roads eat them for breakfast.

Then D2 got Bridgestone Dueler 694's good tyre, very grippy, but soft and wear a lot faster, they're now on the steelies on my buggy trailer as they have low tread and it doesnt phaze me on the trailer.

D1 has 225/75-16 STT's on it, seem solid, only had them for 6,000kms though, not very good on slippery rock though, they're too hard, also on wet roads, had a few scares that were sorted out with the handbrake...

D2 has 235/70-16 Cooper ATR's on it, same as the STT's, but no noise and wear better.

Land Cruiser ute at the farm (not mine) has 265/75-16 Good Year Wrangler Silent Armours, this has the be the best AT i've ever experienced, bullet proof, wear well and drive well, slient on the road (aptly named), but they are pretty average in the mud, good on sand though, i think a good touring tyre if you were going north or anything. I'll put these on my second set of wheels one day

    Cheers
    Will

    On the D2

    245/75/16
Cooper ST...ST/C and STT, as with Slunnies Coopers not a good lasting tyre and they chip in hard offroad stuff, basiclly crap

    235/85/16
    Nangkang Mudstars(maxxis mudders copy)
Great off road, long wearing but scary on road in the wet, once they get to half wear, crap on and off road.

    BFG KM2s
Brilliant tyre on and off road, so quiet, you would swear they weren't a mud tyre, not much else to say really

    265/75/16
    Maxxis Bighorns
Great on and off road, wear really well but bloody hell are they noisey, ah whadya say..... I SAID THE TYRES ARE NOISEY AREN'T THEY

    On the D4
    255/60/18
    General Grabber AT2
Absolute rubbish offroad, weak sidewall not an LT tyre

    265/70/17
Kumho KL78 LT, Current tyre on the D4, great tyre, best AT tyre I've run.

    Baz.

Currently running new Pirelli ATR LT 245/70/16 on my 2004 D2a and very pleased with them, loads of grip especially in the wet and extremely quiet.

I think these are an excellent every day tyre choice for 90% of Disco drivers who want their tyres to do the job on and off road but don't need muddies on a daily basis. Most importantly is the safety factor tyres like this bring especially if like me your wife and kids drive around in the Disco most of the time.

    Cheers

1st set were pirelli A/T's 235/70/16 sensational on and off road.

wish they still made em for R16

2nd set is pirelli ATR 235/70/16 LT

Drove sydney-brisbane-boulia-alice via the plenty and then some of the sandover Hwy's, over some pretty rough rocky stuff around
palm valley etc and then thru oodnadatta track south thru flinders ranges and back to syd.

Towed a camper and they arrived home with not a mark on them! very tough tyre while being quiet on road, soft and pliable for off road as well.

    Will buy again.

For fun off road using Cooper STT's- very firm tyre giving rough ride even when at lower tyre pressures. They chip on the rocky stuff. Noisey when on road. don't like em much wont buy again.

    cheers All

    Just an observation

Everytime a new thread goes up on tyres, the number of posts is HUGE!!!!

Currently running Michelin LTX A/T2 (245x75x16) on my Disco.
Very quiet and good grip on tar. Done quite a bit of dirt roads, trails and tracks and they've held up really well with no cuts etc. They have done about 40k and still have 14mm tread. I'm very happy with them.

Another vote for the Pirelli ATRs 235/70/16.

Got em before our Kimberley trip this year (from Melbourne).

Towed a trailer the Oodnadatta, then up through the limestone rocks of the Gregory NP which is notorious for cutting tyres. They were put through some serious work there and have held up very well. I minute video clip will come soon

    And quiet on road too.

I have ran Yoko Geolanders AT for a few years great road tire and did well in snow and off road in high country not best with wombat muds, but i found a good all rounder.

Now run Micky T's 33" MTZ really good on the road not a lot of noise and great in the snow fist trip off road soon will post on that later good price and i think could be better then the STT's,

Can sell you the AT if you want them cheep cheep

Continental4x4 contact 255/55/18 so good on hwy and good in sand am about to get 285/55/18 yakahama advan st due to crazy good deal. Need to find another spare but now have similar size on and off road. Will let you know how they go. I think they should be awesome on the beach. Wasn't a fan o wrangler ht that were on it when I naught it but the goodyear wranglers mt s in 275/70/16 are pretty good despite only 6 mm left. Would love a new set of these. Matt
