    Question Where to tap into +ve for UHF Radio

    Just starting the mods for the 04 D2 and need some advice on where to tap in for +ve to power up the UHF. Its installed under the dash adjacent to fuse box. I am already intending to use an inline fuse supplied for the radio. I am hoping someone can tell me the best place to either splice into a wire or other option - for example I read somewhere that you can insert a male spade connector into the spare fuse relay down the bottom left hand side of the fuse box. My goal is for the radio to be powered only when key is in accessory or ignition position. Suggestions?

    Get an add-a-fuse from swecheck.com in Melbourne. Daylight robbery for what you get (about $12 each) but saves a lot of frigging around.

    Pick an appropriate circuit and add it to it. I ran the earth to the steel bar on that runs across the bottom of the fuse bay. There is a bolt that screws in to it, undo it and add it to that.

    Easiest to take power from the cigarette lighter via the fuse that came with it.

    Deano, are you suggesting I tap into the cigarette lighter circuit? If so, where do you reckon is the best spot? Thanks

    Tap to an "Always on" source...

    That way you can have the radio on when ignition is off.

    They wont flatten your battery for days and its pretty handy.

    We used to give the kids small handhelds and let them go and play.
    We could hear them, and call them back when we wanted them to return.

    Best source for power is the Fuse box under the bonnet - direct from the main battery feed... This gives best filtering of noise.

    Like the idea of being able to monitor the kids Tombie. I have a couple myself and it makes really good sense out bush. Cheers

    Easiest place is where the +ve wire joins the cigarette lighter socket which is pretty close physically to where you are mounting the UHF. This will be a switched +ve, either ign. or acc. can't remember so that when you turn the key off it's off, which I reckon is a good thing. Knowing that there is nothing flattening the battery when the key is removed gives me peace of mind.

    I take the point with the kids having hand helds and being able to monitor them, me I'd get another hand held and still be confident that off is off when the keys are removed.

    The D2 and D4 here dont get driven for about 8 days at a time.

    The UHFs are just on all the time with no issues....

    That and they use most of their power only when the transmit. What are UHF power outputs now 5w? Mines in a always useable state and powered from the AUX battery with inline fuse. So is my stereo it is now powered from AUX.
