3 Amigos - Fix Not Workin

    Hi All,

    So after much reading I followed the instructions at this link;

ABS Mod - LAND ROVER CLUB V.I.

The hope was that is would fix those three little lights on my 1999 D2 TD5.

Well after following everything step by step and putting it all back together. No good. The lights are on and nothing has changed.

So my question is, what do you guys suggest I try next? Pull the whole unit apart and do a rebuild?

I was trying not to take to the car off the road for too long as it is my daily driver.

    Thanks for any advice.

ABS faults need to be cleared before the lights will go out.
    Did you clear the faults?
Did you have the faults read before doing this repair?
There are many faults that can bring on these lights not just shuttle valve problems.

    What fault do you have?

Performing an SVS mod will bypass a crook connector in the modulator. If the switch is faulty, then it won't give the right readings, and show as 3 amigos. Similarly if another fault, then doing the mod is of no use. Some analysis is reqd.

As others have already said. What was the cause in the first place?

The lights are symptoms/ indicator of faults associated with sensors wiring and switches.

    Identify the fault first.

Sounds like I may have jumped the gun.

What is the best option to diagnose. I would prefer not to go to Land Rover. I have access to a snap on tool, will try that.

Is there any way to read the errors with out a scan tool?

If I remove battery does the computer reset after say 15 mins?

    Thanks again,

You need a scan tool to read and reset faults, there is no other way.
Start another thread asking if someone in your area has a hawkeye or nanocom ect and if you could get codes read and cleared.

Ok so I have scanned the codes and reset them. Had something about LH Front ABS Sensor intermittent? Can't remember exact fault.

Took a couple of resets to clear the lights properly.

So I drove it home about 50 to 60kms and no problem all the way. Tried ABS with an emergency brake and all appears to be working.

Pulled in the driveway and the ABS light came up. I turned off the car and all three lights came back on. Strange?

So I grabbed the scan tool and checked the codes. No codes present. Cleared the codes again and the lights have gone out.

Anyone got any idea? If lights are on it is due to a fault? But what is the fault when no fault is recorded?

As I said lights are now off and it may be a glitch, guess I will no tomorrow after another drive.

The wires tend to break in the wheel sensor where they come out of the hub. If you replace it and reset the codes all should be fine. Make sure you have a beefy rattle gun!
I think Pedro had a good write up where you can jack up each wheel and put in drive to see if the speedo works. Which ever wheel it does not work on will be the fault. You will need to clear the fault before you get a reading from that wheel sensor.

Clean your earths up for the ABS. There is one under the kick LH fascia panel under the glove box and the other is just in front of the air filter. when these get dirty they can do weird things.
The wheel speed senor fault will probably come back. It could be sensor or the hub, need to know exact fault.

So each time I clear the codes it last between 10 or 50km. Then the lights are back.

Now the only problem I have is that I know longer actually get codes. Is says the system is clear of codes. But lights are back on. I reset and lights go off.

So I know it mentioned as the original code the LH sensor front. I guess I will check that.

I will check the grounds too.

Any other suggestions as it appears to be a ghost now?
